Dr. Mohammed Mostafa Feeroz

Dr. Mohammed Mostafa Feeroz is the senior most Professor of the Department of Zoology, Jahangirnagar University. He received National Award Gold Medal "Bangabandhu Award for Wildlife Conservation-2014" for his outstanding contribution to education, research and conservation of wildlife of Bangladesh. He completed his MSc in Wildlife Ecology from Jahangirnagar University in 1989. He joined as a Lecturer in the Department of Zoology in 1992, became Professor in 2005 and Grade-1 Professor in 2017. He was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship for PhD Program in 1995 and obtained his degree in Primate Ecology, Management and Conservation from the University of Cambridge, UK in 1999. He has expanded the wildlife research field in Bangladesh since 2005, added two new arenas: wildlife population genetics and transmissible diseases between wildlife and human which enriched the research facilities by developing several link programs with the University of Washington, Seattle, USA, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, USA and the Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University, Japan. Prof. Feeroz is awarded NIH (National Institute of Health, USA) Grant and also completed 57 research projects as the Coordinator/Principal Investigator funded by international organizations. He worked in several key position of the university viz. Drirctor, Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (2018-2023), Chairman, Dept. of Zoology (2004-2007), Member of of Senate (2001-2009), Member of Syndicate (2002-2005) and Warden (2001-2005). He has published 173 research articles in national and international journals and is also the author/co-author of 18 books, and has participated in 41 international symposiums and congresses held in 13 countries (UK, USA, Japan, Norway, China, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Cambodia, Nepal). He is the member of "Wildlife Advisory Board", Ministry of Environment and Forest, Bangladesh, from 2006 to 2018 as well as member of "National Expert Committee" for SRCWP, Tangua Haor and many others. He is also the member of 21 national/international organizations including Asian Elephant Specialist Group (AsESG), Otter Specialist Group (OSG), Primate Specialist Group (PSG) of IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC). He is the "Lead Assessor" of Red List Assessing Group-Mammals, the Red List Updating-Bangladesh by IUCN. He discovered 7 DNA Haplotypes of Rhesus Macaques (Macaca mulatta) of Bangladesh which is the first DNA isolation from any wildlife species of Bangladesh in 2006 and have two patent of Primer for this species in Bangladeshi name. The largest open access database on biodiversity of Protected Areas of Bangladesh (BioTrack) is also developed by him. He has developed "Fun and Learn" non-formal environmental education program for school children living in and around the protected areas of Bangladesh supported by GIZ, Forest Department and Arannayk Foundation. He developed Field Training Course in collaboration with University of Washington, USA since 2006 through which 260 students got training. He is the co-organizer of Bird Fair in Jahangirnagar University to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation since 2005. He has supervised 150 research theses in M.Sc/M.Phil/Ph.D level on different aspects of wildlife of Bangladesh. He is also the supervisor of a Post-Doctoral Fellow supported by Fullbright Research Fellowship from USA. He is the founder of the Wildlife Rescue Centre (WRC) in Jahangirnagar University, the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Dr. Murshada Begum

Dr. Murshada Begum, Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics at Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh has been serving as a faculty member at this University since 2010. She was born in 1979 in Thakurgaon, Bangladesh, and completed her Secondary and Higher Secondary education at the renowned Govt. Girl's High School, Thakurgaon, and Govt. Women's College, Thakurgaon. She completed her B.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from Jahangirnagar University. She was awarded Ph.D. in Mathematics from Jahangirnagar University. She worked on Mathematical Models for Age Structured Population Projection of Bangladesh in her Ph.D. program. Currently, she is acting as the role of Provost of Jahanara Imam Hall, Jahangirnagar University. She is also acting as an Assistant House Tutor, House Tutor, and Warden in the same hall since 2013.

Dr. Sohel Ahmed joined the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Jahangirnagar University on October 29, 2006, and has been serving as a Professor since April 20, 2013. As the Manager of a HEQEP Sub-Project funded by the World Bank (Grant Amount 347.00 Lakh BDT) Prof. Ahmed has successfully established a world-class Laboratory for research in Biomedical Sciences in the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He graduated from the University of Dhaka with B. Sc (Hons.) and M. Sc. (Thesis) in Biochemistry. Prof. Ahmed completed his SSC and HSC from Rajshahi Cadet College, Rajshahi. Earlier he worked in the Research Division of BIRDEM Hospital in the Depts. of Microbiology and Immunology from March 1996 to April 2004. In 1999, Prof. Ahmed was awarded the Japanese Government Scholarship to pursue his higher studies in the Dept. of Molecular Genetics at the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC), Graduate School of Medicine, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan and received Ph. D. in Medical Sciences in 2004. He then worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the Health Sciences Division at the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Tsukuba, Japan till March 2006. Prof. Ahmed served in different administrative positions at Jahangirngar University. He served as the Proctor from 2012 to 2013, as the Provost of Shaheed Rafique-Jabbar Hall from 2018 to 2022, and as Chairman of the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 2009 to 2012. Prof. Ahmed has a strong affiliation with many professional bodies. Currently, he is an Academic Council Member of the Bangladesh Open University nominated by the Hon'ble President & Chancellor. He also serves as a Selection Committee Member at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Youth Development (SHNIYD) for faculty and officer recruitment. Professor Ahmed is a Member of COVID-19 and Dengue Observation and Control Cells at Jahangirnagar University. He is also a Visiting Consultant & Team Leader (COVID-19 Front-liner) of Mol. Diagnostics Laboratory at EMCH. He served as an Executive member of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC) from 2019 to 2022. He served as an elected Treasurer of the Graduate Biochemists Association (GBA). Currently, Prof. Ahmed is the Vice-President of the Dhaka University Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Alumni Association (DUBMBAA). Prof. Ahmed has published a total of 45 original research articles in reputed National and International Journals including Toxicology, Neurotoxicology, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroimmunology, FEBS Journal, JBC, and many others. He has attended a number of conferences/seminars held in Yokohama (Japan), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Tarragona (Spain), Shenzhen (China), Kobe (Japan), Singapore City (Singapore), and New Delhi (India).

Dr. Mohammad Alamgir Kabir is a Professor of Statistics and chairman, at Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He completed his B.Sc (Honours) and MSc in Statistics from Jahangirnagar University in 1995 and 1996 with first class 2nd position and first class first position respectively. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Statistics from the University of Malaya (UM) Malaysia in 2014 under the Bangabandhu Fellowship on Science & ICT.
