Burns recently successfully defended her doctoral dissertation to complete a Ph.D. in Media and Communication from Bowling Green State University. Her emphasis area was interpersonal communication, and her work included a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her dissertation is titled "Identity and Romantic Relational Meaning-Making After Experiencing Intimate Partner Violence."
Burns also received B.A. (2012) and M.A. (2016) degrees in Communication Studies from Northern Illinois University.
She will join the faculty having taught a wide range of communication courses at both Bowling Green and Northern Illinois. Burns has also shared her gifts and knowledge in interpersonal communication as a domestic and sexual violence advocate, and frequently speaks and teaches in the community on issues related to sexual violence.

Anthony Liguori came to Lakeland from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he had been a faculty member in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology since 1996. He holds a doctorate in experimental psychology from Boston University.

April Arvan, Lakeland's all-time winningest women's basketball coach and longtime instructor and professor, graduated from Lakeland with her bachelor's in secondary education and broad field social studies in 1993 and her master's in education in 1995.
She earned her Ph.D. in education from Northcentral University in Arizona in 2010.
Arvan's record as head basketball coach from 1994-2007 was 266-84 and she won eight conference titles and led her teams to five NCAA Division III tournament appearances.
Beyond coaching, Arvan has worked with the NCAA. She has presented and facilitated at numerous NCAA conferences, with topics ranging from student-athlete leadership to athletics-campus relationships.
Arvan joined the faculty fulltime in 2007 and has taught more than a dozen different courses in various departments over the years.

Brett Killion, a CPA, joined the Lakeland faculty in 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned both his bachelor's degree in accounting and Master of Accountancy degree.
Winner of Economics Wisconsin's Excellence in Teaching Economics and Financial Literacy Award in 2009, Killion oversees the accounting curriculum at Lakeland and serves as the site coordinator for Lakeland's Voluntary Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). He is also heavily involved in building relationships with area employers and establishing internship opportunities for Lakeland students at many of the area's world-class companies.
Killion recently developed all of the lecture-replacement videos for Pearson Higher Education's two introductory accounting textbooks - two of the leading college-level accounting textbooks in the nation. His videos will be seen by accounting students across the nation.
Before coming to Lakeland, Killion was a business education instructor at Luxemburg-Casco High School (Luxemburg, Wis.). Prior to that, he was an adult education accounting instructor at Concordia University (Grafton, Wis.). Killion's professional work experience includes one year as an auditing associate at Grant Thornton, LLP.

Brian Frink, who holds a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry from The Ohio State University and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota, began his career at Lakeland in 1999.
Since arriving at Lakeland, Frink has been heavily invested in the university, serving on multiple committees and task force assignments. He is one of Lakeland's most prolific instructors, having taught more than two dozen courses. His special interests include atmospheric chemistry, medicinal chemistry and forensic chemistry.
Frink has directed research for eight Lakeland students who went on to graduate schools around the country.

Chia-Chin (Cristi) Chang, who has been with the college since 2005, holds a Ph.D. in mathematics and a master's in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison after earning her bachelor's degree in mathematics from National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan.
Well versed in mathematics and computer programming, Chang has taught numerous courses in both disciplines and excels in the areas of mathematical software. She's had two research papers published.

Dr. Alan Mock's intellectual passions include sociology of religion, the intersections between religion and American society, and the use of religion in political discourse. Dr. Mock is an accomplished blues and folk musician, and plays regularly in the community. He also enjoys hiking, camping, canoeing, and being with his spouse, family and friends.

Dr. Andrew Karls is a broadly trained biologist whose research specialization focuses on cellular neurophysiology. After receiving his graduate degree from Marquette University, Dr. Karls remained in Milwaukee as a postdoctoral researcher, investigating the molecular action of alcohols in the brain. Dr. Karls was born and raised in Wisconsin, so he considers himself tremendously lucky to have found a such a great professional fit at Lakeland. As part of the Exercise Science faculty, Dr. Karls teaches the introductory biology course and the anatomy and physiology sequence, as well as advising ESS majors. When not working at Lakeland, Dr. Karls may likely be found hiking with his German Shepherd dog, at a Packers or Brewers game, or on the golf course.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he is also an exercise instructor. At the SPORTS CORE, he specializes in Aquatic Therapeutic and Rehabilitative exercises. Additionally, he coordinates swimming programs in Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, personal rehabilitative aquatics and swim instruction. He holds certification as an American Red Cross Instructor Training, Arthritis Aquatics instructor and is American Council on Exercise- ACE certified. Brown earned a Master's degree in Adapted PE from University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, and a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
