The statue is a gift of Professor Akio Takamori, the artist. Professor Takamori is a distinguished member of the University of Washington Art School faculty. He was trained in Japan and later in Missouri and New York. He works in porcelain; his artistry is a blend of eastern and western influences. Using black lines reminiscent of Japanese woodblock prints, Takamori's work shows an intense interest in the expression of the human form. His work can be found in public collections in the U.S. and around the world.

Erin Lloyd

Erin Lloyd is the Assistant Dean of the Center for Career Development at the University of Washington School of Law. Before joining UW Law, Erin spent the previous ten years in private practice in New York, building a successful partnership and deep roots in the legal community there, and teaching as an adjunct at several New York City law schools. As a founding partner at Lloyd Patel LLP, Erin focused her litigation practice on representing employees who had suffered discrimination, harassment, wage theft and other abuses in the workplace. She also handled commercial litigation and transactional matters, advising small and growing businesses. Erin represented clients in both state and federal court, in mediation and arbitration, before administrative bodies, and in appeals before both the First and Second Department Appellate Divisions in New York. While building her private practice, Erin simultaneously taught as an adjunct professor, focusing her academic work on legal writing, essential analytical and lawyering skills, and professional ethics. Prior to launching her private practice, Erin spent nearly six years clerking for judges in New York County Supreme Court in Manhattan, first in a general civil trial court and later in the specialized Commercial Division. Erin earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Women's Studies from Portland State University and a J.D. from the City University of New York School of Law.

Jana E. Matthews (she/her/hers) is a graduate of Indiana University McKinney Law School of Law and admittee to the Indiana State Bar. Throughout her legal career she has honed her skills in the public sector, non-profit and private practice. Ms. Matthews' law career began with her time as a Staff Attorney with the Indiana Supreme Court and Program Coordinator of the Indiana Conference for Legal Education (Indiana CLEO) program. In this role she spent a significant amount of time assisting law students from admission and enrollment to graduation, bar review preparation and securing full time employment. After her time with the Supreme Court, she transitioned into leadership, compliance management, resource, and program development in the non-profit sector with programs that focused on enhancing, empowering and educating middle school Indianapolis' youth in the areas of academic success and community service. Her time with the Stacey Toran Foundation and DREAM Alive, Inc. helped diversify her legal professional experience from a traditional setting to a non-traditional environment. Upon leaving the non-profit sector, she hung up her shingle as a solo practitioner and focused her practice on many areas including criminal defense, family law, probate, nonprofit creation, governance and compliance, and business development. Outside of her practice Ms. Matthews served as facilitator/instructor with Indiana Wesleyan University and maintained a consulting business. Since 2019, Jana has focused on career coaching, programming, and supporting law students and alumni interested in learning more about legal careers that include pro bono service, public interest, government, and Judge Advocate General (JAG) legal careers develop professional development plans. She had helped others with their professional development at IU McKinney School of Law and most recently at Seattle University School of Law. As an advocate of community engagement, Jana also commits her time to serving, for the second year, as co-chair of the National Association of Law Placement (NALP) Public Service Section, Treasurer of the Loren Miller Bar Association and Chair, of the Delta GEMS Mentoring program with the Seattle Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is an encourager and connector by nature and looks forward to the opportunity to share her knowledge, wisdom and experiences with students and alumni to maximize their potential and career opportunities.

John Clynch teaches Evidence and Criminal Law. In the 1990s and early 2000's, John was a public defender for Society of Counsel Representing Accused Persons and The Defender Association. In 2005, John returned to UW School of Law to pursue an LLM in Tax. After working for Deloitte during school and after graduation, John took the position of Staff Attorney for the Low-Income Tax Clinic at the law school. He became Managing Director in 2012. In August of 2021, John handed over the reins of the clinic and is now focused on teaching doctrinal courses.

Marian Gould Gallagher

The Marian Gould Gallagher Law Library houses the largest legal collection in the Northwest with over 650,000 volumes in print. Gallagher boasts private study cubicles, spacious study tables, law-student only group study rooms, copy rooms and a law-student only lounge. A two-story reading room topped by four skylights provides a grand light-filled space for research and study. The library was named in honor of Marian Gould Gallagher, who served as head librarian for UW Law for 37 years. Under her direction, the law library tripled in size and became one of the most respected in the nation.

Yesenia Gutierrez is a collaborative leader with 20 years of experience. While overseeing the development and implementation of policies and programs in the non-profit and higher education settings, she has worked to address inequities in resources, systems and opportunities, with a particular focus on civil rights and discrimination. Prior to joining the University of Washington School of Law as their Director of Professional Development, she served as Director of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action for Portland State University and for Oregon State University, where she supervised the university's civil rights and Title IX compliance obligations while also striving to create transparency of process and meaningful trainings, to increase reporting and the resolution of workplace conflicts and to cultivate a climate of respect for all. Yesenia is trained in the neurobiology of trauma as it relates to both racial discrimination and sexual violence. Yesenia deployed these tools when working with parties during a process especially when examining (under)reporting of discrimination and harassment. Yesenia has been responsible for either investigating or supervising several hundred cases of discrimination in both university settings and for the Civil Rights Division for the State of Oregon. Prior to her career in civil rights compliance, Yesenia had an extensive career working as a civil legal services and non-profit attorney practicing in the areas of administrative law, housing, disability, voting rights and employment.
