J-Express started as the master project of Bjarte Dysvik in Professor Inge Jonassen's group at the University of Bergen in the late 1990's. Jonassen and Dysvik started the company Molmine which then had J-Express as its only product. The first version was released in 1998. Dysvik continued developing the software throughtout his PhD and today J-Express Pro is a user friendly analysis software with many users. It is mainly used for mining gene expression data. In 2011 the J-Express code was transferred back to the University of Bergen, and will be maintained by the Norwegian Bioinformatics Platform and Norwegian Microarray Consortium in collaboration.
