Oregon Economic Development Association acknowledges that slavery was used extensively to establish and develop the American economy. Structural racism continues to uphold systemic barriers to equity and opportunity for Black and Indigenous Americans and all people of color. Economic development has often left out marginalized communities in its work to increase prosperity, and in some cases this work has deepened inequities.
