PROJECT BIG LIFE

We are Canadian researchers, clinicians, data scientists and developers. We wanted a way to show how our research and public health policy could affect people, their families and their community. We realized the algorithms that we create to predict disease risk in the community are just as accurate, if not more so, than the algorithms that we use in our clinics with patients. We quickly created an online calculator to demonstrate how healthy living affects a person's life expectancy, using the same approach that we use to assess how healthy living affects entire communities... We launched the website with the release of one of our research papers…. there were 50,000 users in the first 30 minutes and our servers crashed. Since then, we've had millions of people from over 200 countries use our calculators.
