At Pitt, we're keeping more materials out of landfills. In fiscal year 2024, we diverted 49% of materials to recycling or reuse. While the University doesn't have a formal zero waste goal, more of our campus community is adopting a zero waste mindset... The University of Pittsburgh defines "sustainability" as balancing equity, environment, economics so current and future generations can thrive. Keeping this in focus, Pitt has active sustainability efforts and initiatives across disciplines, domains, and scales - including pursuing carbon neutrality by 2037.
