Christopher Garrell joined the National Steel Bridge Alliance (NSBA) in 2009 and is the chief bridge engineer. His primary responsibility is to lead and promote all bridge related technical activities among the design, construction and academic communities. Additionally, Chris is responsible for identifying and leading initiatives that ultimately make steel bridge design, construction and maintenance safer, simpler and more cost effective. Chris is a member of several technical related committees and is the Secretary of the Transportation Research Board's (TRB) Standing Committee on Steel Bridges, AFF20. Prior to joining NSBA, Chris spent 12 years working for Bentley Systems where he was a product manager for structural engineering-BIM. Before joining Bentley, he was a bridge engineer with STV, Incorporated. He has a B.S. in civil engineering from the University at Buffalo, a B.S. in physics from State University of New York at Fredonia, an M.E. in software engineering from Penn State and a M.S. in systems engineering also from Penn State.

Jeff Carlson

Jeff Carlson is the director of market development for the National Steel Bridge Alliance, a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction. He represents the steel bridge fabricating industry on matters of steel bridge fabrication and construction. Jeff's role with NSBA is to provide technical assistance, education tools and resources pertaining to steel, economic and market information, national representation on transportation-related legislative issues, and university support programs. Prior to joining the NSBA, Jeff spent seven years as a consulting engineer. He holds three degrees: an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University, a graduate degree in structural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from the University of Denver. Additionally Jeff has been a volunteer for the non-profit philanthropic organization Bridges to Prosperity for more than three years where he has led two separate teams of volunteers to Panama to build pedestrian bridges in rural communities. Tony Peterson

Tony Peterson is the Bridge Steel Specialist in the Central Market for the National Steel Bridge Alliance. He represents the steel bridge industry on matters of bridge type selection, fabrication and construction. Tony's role with NSBA is to provide technical assistance, tools and resources for steel bridges to bridge owners, designers, fabricators, university programs, and technical committees. Prior to joining the NSBA, Tony spent 30 years in the bridge consulting profession, with the last 13 years at Jacobs as a senior bridge engineer. His bridge experience includes design, rehabilitation, inspection, and construction of a wide variety of structure types located throughout the USA and internationally. Tony is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states and is a FHWA certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader. He holds a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Engineering (Structural) from Cornell University.

Travis Hopper is a Bridge Steel Specialist in the Steel Solutions Center for the National Steel Bridge Alliance, a division of the American Institute of Steel Construction. He represents the steel bridge industry on matters of steel bridge fabrication and construction. Travis's role with NSBA is to provide technical assistance, tools, and resources for steel bridge owners, designers, fabricators, university programs, and technical committees. Prior to joining AISC and NSBA, Travis spent 8 years in bridge engineering consulting. His background includes the analysis, design, load rating, and rehabilitation of various bridge structures. In addition, Travis has experience in service life design and evaluation, durability, and corrosion protection of bridges. He received a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from New Mexico State University and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Penn State University. Travis is a registered Professional Engineer in California.
