Bak Fun Wong

Dr. Bak Fun Wong grew up in Hong Kong and came to the United States in 1978. He became a believer in 1964 and was baptized in 1969. He served as a Sunday School teacher, a fellowship counselor, and as a deacon at BCEC. He is one of the lay elders of BCEC. Bak Fun attended Hong Kong Baptist College and holds a Masters of Education from Boston University. He participated in a doctoral program at Boston College and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Wheelock College. He was the Principal of the Josiah Quincy Elementary School, the Deputy Superintendent of Schools and Leaders of Boston Public Schools, the Headmaster of Josiah Quincy Upper School, and currently a Special Assistant to the Superintendent. He serves on the boards of the Wang YMCA, Massachusetts Chinatown Trust Fund Committee, New England Medical Center, Bunker Hill Community College, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Harvard University Principal Center, and the Governor's Public Education Nomination Committee. Bak Fun has been married to his wife Mei Kee Liu Wong since 1977. They are two of the founders of American Chinese Christian Educational & Social Services, Inc. (ACCESS).

Chris Horte

Chris grew up in a Christian family in Rockland, Massachusetts, and accepted Christ as a teenager. He later fully recommitted his life to Christ during his years at UMass Amherst where he was a dedicated member of the Minuteman Marching Band as he pursued an undergraduate degree in Music Performance. Chris sensed God calling him into full-time youth ministry in early 2016 after serving as a volunteer in First Baptist Church (FBC) Amherst's youth group. He then began his studies at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Fall 2019 in addition to joining the staff of FBC Amherst as the church's Youth Director. He met his wife Ariel a couple months later, and they got married in March of 2022. Chris graduated with a Master of Christian Studies from GCTS in May of 2022, and God has since called them to join the BCEC Newton family in October 2022.

James Su

Minister James Su was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He moved to South Africa with his family when he was 11 years old. During college, he accepted Christ, and soon after he was called by God to serve Him in full-time ministry. In 2013, he came to the United States with his family to pursue a Master of Theology degree at the Dallas Theological Seminary. After graduating from the seminary in 2017, Minister Su served in a Chinese church in New York State and shepherded the Chinese community there. In 2021, God led James to join the BCEC staff team as the Mandarin minister at Newton Campus. Minister Su is married to Carol, and they have two children, Timothy and Estelle.

Lorraine Ho

Lorraine co-labors with over 100 volunteers throughout the year to minister to children, from newborns to 5th graders, at Chinatown Campus. She was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Los Angeles when she was 12 years old. She and her family moved to the Boston area before her freshman year in high school. By God's grace, she became a Christian through the Teen Volleyball outreach at BCEC and has been actively serving here ever since. As an economics and international politics student, she had opportunities to work in the financial, medical, public, and educational sectors during college. Lorraine answered God's calling to ministry by receiving training at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary after working in retail management. Lorraine is married to Mark and has two children, Nathan and Magdalene.

Rev. Barry Lam

Barry Lam shepherds the Newton Chinese congregation and serves as fellowship advisor in 3 fellowships - Elim Fellowship, Daniel Fellowship and Enoch Fellowship. Barry started attending BCEC in 2004 and joined the staff of BCEC in September of 2008 after graduating with a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Barry was born in Hong Kong and grew up in a Christian home. He was baptized in 1998 in Boston when he came to study for a music degree at Berklee College of Music. After graduation, Barry worked as a QA engineer in the IT field. There, Barry answered God's calling to enter into full-time ministry. He is married to Sophia and they are blessed with a son, Caleb, and two daughters, Leah and Hannah.

Calvin Chu is the Student Ministries Director, serving youth at Chinatown Campus. He was born in Boston and has been attending BCEC since 1996. He studied management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and then proceeded to work in a variety of industries before attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. After graduation, he worked in retail and continued leading the college ministry until he joined the staff in 2013. Calvin has many interests and hobbies, but his favorite thing to do is hang out with his wife Lindsey. They were married in 2011.

Rev. Daniel Chan

Pastor Daniel Chan was born and raised in Hong Kong. He worked in the building industry for six years and became a professional member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in Britain. In 1982, he came to America for graduate studies and earned his M.B.A. (U. of Connecticut), M. Div. (Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary) and Th. D. (Boston University) degrees. Pastor Daniel joined our pastoral team in 1991 and was installed as the Senior Pastor in 2020. He came to know his wife, Bet Har, at BCEC. They have been married since 1986 and they have three sons, Nathan, John, and Paul.

Rev. Enoch Liao

Pastor Enoch joined the BCEC staff team in 2001 and has served in a variety of pastoral roles. Currently, Pastor Enoch serves as the Lead English Pastor overseeing English-speaking ministries at both the Chinatown and Newton campuses. He also serves as the Co-Chair for The Chinatown Coalition for Boston's Chinatown. He coordinates the Fellowship of Asian American Ministers and Ministries in the Boston/New England area. He is a founding board member for the Boston Center for Biblical Counseling. Pastor Enoch grew up in southern California. He attended UCLA where he earned undergraduate degrees in both Philosophy and Study of Religion. He attended seminary at Talbot School of Theology where he earned his M.Div. He is married to Karen, and they have three sons Evan, Owen, and Kian, and also one daughter, Eve, who has passed on. Pastor Enoch and Karen live in Medford, MA.

Rev. Ken Liu

Ken was born in Lawrence, Kansas, but was raised mostly in New Jersey. Ken sensed a calling into ministry during his studies at Virginia Tech. Upon graduation in 1996 with a BS in Psychology, Ken served as a youth director at his home church and later attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1998. During his seminary studies, Ken met Monique, a native Bostonian, and they were married in 2001. Ken's first pastorate was at the Chesterbrook Taiwanese Presbyterian Church (Falls Church, VA), first as a youth director and later ordained and installed as the Associate Pastor. During their ten years in Virginia, Ken and Monique had three children: Matthew, Justin, and Alisa. In 2012, the Liu family moved back to Boston to be closer to family and for Ken to serve as the Pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church. They welcomed their youngest child, Toby, into the family in 2014.

Rev. Kenneth Kwong

Pastor Kenneth Kwong shepherds our Chinatown Cantonese 3rd Service Congregation and oversees the Cantonese-speaking youth and young adult ministries in our Chinatown campus. Pastor Kenneth was born in Hong Kong and came to Boston in 1983 and was baptized there in 1984 at BCEC. After receiving his B.A. degree from Queens College and M.S. degree in instructional media production from New York Institute of Technology, God called him into full-time ministry. Pastor Kenneth went to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts, where he received his Master of Divinity. At the same time, he started serving at BCEC as a youth fellowship counselor. In 1995, he graduated from the seminary and was offered an intern position at BCEC. He was ordained and installed as Assistant Pastor in September 2003. Pastor Kenneth is married to Carmen and they have a son Ethan (King-Lam, meaning "constantly wait for the return of the Lord"); and a daughter Rina (Joan-Lam, meaning "praise the Lord for His return").

Rev. Steve Liu

Steve Liu serves as the Director of Project Destiny Ministries, overseeing the after-school and summer camp outreach ministries for local youth and their families. He grew up in Quincy, MA, becoming a Christian as a teenager when he began attending BCEC. He has been a part of Project Destiny Summer Camp's staff since 1997 and served as a teacher in Boston Public Schools from 2004-2008. He is currently pursuing a degree at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and also holds a B.A. in Literature from Middlebury College. Steve met his wife, Emily, at BCEC while serving at Project Destiny. They have a young daughter, Talia, and live in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston. He has a ministry passion to equip and encourage the local church to effectively serve the local community with the message of Jesus Christ in both word and deed.

Ryan So

Ryan was born and raised in Massachusetts, attending both High School and College within Boston. He grew up in a Christian family, and accepted Christ in middle school. After college, he worked 3 years at an office job before a fateful discussion with his father, which would lead him to a life of full-time ministry . He graduated from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 2018. While attending seminary, he interned at BCEC working first with College Ministry and Project Destiny, before helping out with the young adult ministry. He carries a passion for serving young adults both in college and beyond. Ryan has interest in many hobbies & genres, some of which are cooking and sci-fi & fantasy.

Venus Yim

Venus Yim was born in Hong Kong, and she has lived in New York City since 1997. She was baptized in 2002. After receiving her B.S Applied Mathematics degree at SUNY Oswego, she worked for many years in secular workplaces. She was called by God and returned to Hong Kong to attend Alliance Bible Seminary in 2012. She received both her Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Marriage and Family Counselling degree in 2016. Venus relocated back to New York City in 2019. Venus had been served at church in Hong Kong and New York City. God led Venus to join the BCEC staff team in 2022.
