BBBSNCA was introduced to Little Brother, Mason, at Gaithersburg Middle School when his counselor addressed his need for a mentor. At that time, Mason was performing poorly in his academics due to limited parental support at home; lack of self-confidence; and his underdeveloped social skills. Mason's mother, Samantha, has not been able to give the necessary support she would like to give to her son due to the development of a severe speech impediment caused by a car accident. Mason's father left the both of them when he was only 2 years old. Even though Mason received encouragement from his mother, he always wished he had a male role model in his life... Since 1949, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the National Capital Area (BBBSNCA) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the Washington region's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, BBBSNCA makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers..
