Dr. Pepper Dill

Pepper was born in Memphis, Tennessee, but grew up in states all over the South and Midwest. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Mississippi State University, his Master of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Louisiana State University. In addition to his 25 years of pastoral experience in Mississippi, Texas, and Illinois, Pepper has invested a significant portion of his career in higher education. He served as an instructor of Speech and Biblical Studies as well as the Chair of the General Education Department at World Evangelism Bible College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He also served at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, in a variety of roles, including Professor of Speech Communication, Coordinator of Institutional Effectiveness, and Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs. At Greenville College, in Greenville, Illinois, Pepper served as Senior Vice President for Enrollment and then Senior Vice President for External Affairs. Pepper is married to author Deborah Pierson Dill, and they have two adult children, Ethan and Isabel. In 2010, Pepper came to Bangs to be the pastor of First Baptist Church. But many here remembered him from his time as the interim pastor in the early 1990's. Pepper and Debby are so happy to have come home to Bangs. It's an honor and a pleasure to be a part of this church family.

Duncan Welborn

Job Titles:
  • Worship Leader
Born in Yorktown Virginia, Duncan grew up in several locations across the south including Thibodaux Louisiana, and League City Texas. While in Thibodaux, Duncan served as a volunteer guitarist at University Baptist Church. At 13 years old, he discovered his true passion for music and God's calling toward worship ministry in his life. This service culminated with a stent as interim worship leader at University Baptist Church from the fall of 2016 to the spring of 2017. In May of 2022, Duncan graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Biblical languages. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in Theology at Howard Payne University and expects to graduate in 2024.

Evelyn Smith

Job Titles:
  • Office Assistant
Evelyn was born and raised in Santa Fe, Texas, a small town outside of Houston. In August of 2020 she moved to Lubbock, Texas, and attended Texas Tech University while competing on the TTU Rodeo Team. In November of 2023, she moved to her parent's ranch in Brownwood, Texas, with her Dachshund, Woodrow, Blue Heeler, Jed, and 3 personal horses to continue training horses and rodeoing. Starting May of 2024, she will begin studying at Texas State Technical College pursuing a degree in Emergency Medical Services. Evelyn joined our staff in Janurary of 2024, and believes she is truly blessed to surrounded by such an incredible church family.

Jarryd Evans

Job Titles:
  • Youth Pastor
Jarryd Evans was born in San Angelo, Texas, but spent his early childhood in Menard, TX. After a few moves, his family settled in Brown County in 2009. Soon after moving to Bangs, Jarryd and his family started attending the First Baptist Church in Bangs where Jarryd and his siblings became very involved in the activities at the church. After graduating high school in 2017, he attended Howard Payne University to pursue a bachelor's degree in youth ministry. While at college he worked as the youth minister and worship leader at First Baptist Church Lake Brownwood. In the spring of 2022, Jarryd accepted the position of youth minister here at FBC Bangs - his home church. Jarryd enjoys doing woodworking in his spare time. He has built a variety of projects, including home décor and furniture. In 2019, he married to his high school sweetheart, Brittney. They now have two precious children, Liam and London Jo. His family makes his life rich and full.

Kelcy Purcell

Kelcy was born and raised in Brownwood, Texas, and proudly calls this area home. She earned her bachelor's degree in business management and worked many years in banking before deciding to pursue her dreams and obtain a teaching degree. Currently, she teaches first grade at an area elementary school, and loves getting to spend her days helping kids learn and grow both at school and within her church family. She is married to Joshua Purcell, and they have two children, Weston and Carson. Kelcy's faith journey began with First Baptist Bangs, and she feels blessed to be able to build the relationships that come with a church family like this one. She currently serves as the Interim Children's Director and is excited to help spread the gospel among the hearts of our most precious treasure - our children.

Susan Carlton

My work experience has given me the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures within and outside the U.S. I moved to Houston July 2013 and then to Early when I married my husband, Charlie Carlton. We have three sons, Edward James Simon, who decided to stay in New Jersey, Ryan Carlton who resides in Liberty Hill with his family and Travis Carlton who resides in Austin. We have been Blessed with eight grandchildren.
