Blackwell, Steve

Steve grew up in Hendersonville and attended East Henderson High School before attending Gardner-Webb University where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. Prior to coming to work at The Greer Citizen as a Publisher, he was Publisher at Hometown News in Spartanburg, Classified Advertising Manager at The Logan Banner in Logan, West Virginia, and General Manager at The Union Daily Times in Union, South Carolina. Steve's newspaper career began in 1984 while a student at Gardner-Webb. Steve and his wife Shayna live in Woodruff and have two children.

Burch, Preston

Job Titles:

Preston has worked as a photographer for The Greer Citizen for over 25 years. He is the grandson of Edd Burch, who purchased the newspaper in 1942, and son of former editor and co-owner Leland Burch.

Holcombe, Julie

A native of Greer, Julie Holcombe is a 1993 graduate of Greer High School and 1997 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Spartanburg with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She has worked at The Greer Citizen for over 20 years as typesetter, graphic artist, and reporter. She has won multiple awards from the South Carolina Press Association for feature writing as well as editorial and advertising design. She is married to Scott Holcombe, a graduate of Blue Ridge High School and Greenville Technical College.

Jake Korol

Jake Korol is a homeschool student in his junior year of High School. He loves all sports, but is a huge baseball and basketball fan and a total stats geek. When not playing or writing about sports, he is constantly seeking the next great cheeseburger.

Macy Cochran

Macy has been a writer since she was a young teenager and often found her nose in books. She got her start as a news reporter at the world's smallest daily newspaper while she was a student at North Greenville University. Now, she is a journalist by day, author of young adult romance by night. A lover of all things coffee, autumn, and baking, Macy can generally be found sipping a latte by the fire while cookies are in the oven.

Phil Buchheit

Phil Buchheit graduated Presbyterian College in 2000 with a degree in Political Science. He has over 13 years experience in the newspaper industry as a pressman, advertising sales representative, circulation manager, writer, and photographer. Phil has won several photography awards from the South Carolina Press Association.

Reider, Stephanie

Stephanie was born in West Virginia, and grew up in a military family, starting school on Okinawa. She graduated from Niceville High School in Florida before moving to Texas with her family. She attended Central Texas College studying to become a Paralegal. Once she had a family, she chose to spend the majority of her career in the field of Education in order to spend time with her children while they were growing up. She is the mother of two children who live in Greer and Lyman, as well as her five beautiful grandchildren.

Sarah Plyler

Shayna W. Blackwell

Shayna is a third-generation newspaper family member. Her grandfather sold advertising for newspapers across the South, her father was a newspaper publisher in Hopewell, Virginia; Union, South Carolina; Williamson, West Virginia and lastly he retired from Hometown News in Spartanburg. Shayna is a graduate of USC Upstate with a degree in Nursing. Ink is in her blood, so she decided to get back to her roots and is ready to show you how advertising works!

Trey Stewart

Trey graduated from North Greenville University in 2021 with a degree in Digital Media. He has won multiple S.C. Press Association awards for his sports and feature writing and has been a storyteller at heart since he was a kid. Whenever he's not writing, he can be found at the gym, listening to music or anxiously watching his Memphis Grizzlies on TV.

Trinity Adams

Trinity Adams is a junior digital media major at North Greenville University. A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, she hopes to continue bring new ideas and stories to the table. "I think that the art of storytelling is beautiful, as it provides the opportunity to see and understand people in different capacities. I hope to convey that through my writing as well."

William Buchheit

William Buchheit graduated from the Spartanburg Day School in 1994 and received a Bachelors Degree in English from Rhodes College in 1998. After earning a Masters degree in American Literature at USC-Columbia, he began reporting for Spartanburg's Hometown News weekly newspaper chain in 2001. He received the South Carolina Medical Association's Print Journalism Award in 2005 and was named the 2011 Reporter of the Year by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). He lives in Greer.
