HFD is a combination department with 24 full-time firefighters, one administrative assistant, and over 30 volunteers. We operate out of four stations across the city, serving an area of 31.2 square miles and a population of over 39,700 residents... As a progressive department in a rapidly growing city along the Interstate 45 corridor, we are an ISO Public Protection Class 2 department. Our responsibilities also include safeguarding the main campus of Sam Houston State University, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's administrative offices, and five prisons located within the city limits... Established in 1925, the Huntsville Fire Department (HFD) is dedicated to providing comprehensive fire protection, emergency medical services (EMS) first response, and disaster/crisis management for the residents of Huntsville.
