Indianola Municipal Utilities (IMU) is located in Indianola, Iowa and provides the city with electric, water and network services. IMU owns and operates four deep water wells that pump an average of 1.2 million gallons of raw water per day. The water is locally treated using a lime softening process which reduces the natural hardness to 100-120 parts per million, or 5.8-7 grains per gallon. The plant is designed to treat 3.3 million gallons a day and is currently at approximately one third of that capacity.
