Origins of Japan Scan extend back to 1945 when a young married American couple started their respective careers after the end of World War II. Trained and certified as a high school teacher in English and typewriting, the young bride started her first employment at Battle Creek High School in the small town of Battle Creek, Nebraska, teaching typewriting skills to high school students. Having finished his tour of duty with the US Navy in Okinawa, Japan, the young groom returned to his hometown in Nebraska and became manager and co-owner of an office supplies company. The young couple started a small part-time hobby business in managing volumes of documents for local Nebraska businesses. Besides being certified as a high school educator, the young bride was skilled in accounting and bookkeeping and was offered summer employment with the Nebraska Horse Racing Association and was head cashier and accountant at the horse racetracks.
