I enjoy working at the Lake Placid Public Library because of the people. The staff I work with, the board that supports all that we do, the adult patrons who are so thankful and kind, the visitors who are often surprised at the size and beauty of our library, and, most especially, the children who are so excited and happy to be here. I was born and raised in Lake Placid and come from a strong local family who have dedicated much of their lives to this community. I am proud to be carrying on the tradition.

I taught for many years, mostly at the middle school level, prior to moving to Lake Placid to raise my family. When my children were in high school, I was offered the dream job of organizing children's programs at the Lake Placid Public Library. Working at this library has to be one of the best jobs in the world, as I am able to meet families from near and far to share in a mutual love of books. Lake Placid is a special place to live and work because of its beauty, serenity, and connection to the world as an international destination. What a lovely life it is to cross country ski or walk the lake in the morning and spend afternoons in the children's section of the LPPL, with its beautiful view of the lake and mountains, helping families find books or participate in a special event. There's always something special going on at our little library!

I visited Lake Placid just after earning a degree in fine arts from Parsons School of Design in New York City. I loved the Adirondacks so much-especially its beautiful scenery, outdoor activities, and sense of community-that I decided to stay and make my life here. Among the parts of my position at the Lake Placid Public Library, I like most are the opportunities to help our patrons, learning from my coworkers, and being surrounded by books. Problem-solving is one of my strengths. When I'm not at work, I enjoy gardening, reading, drawing, knitting, training dogs, and walking with friends.
This library has been part of my life since childhood, and I'm ever so grateful to have been given the opportunity to work here for more than 44 years. I love working with books and with the public. I like the challenge of meeting the needs of our patrons. Too, I like that our library's staff has a team spirit that makes having this job a pleasure. Simply put, I love this library and I love my job as an assistant librarian. Every day offers me the chance to learn new things and to have the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and from all over the world. (That is the advantage of living in this beautiful and popular resort.)

I taught preschool here in Lake Placid for many years as my children were growing up. After the rewarding experience of teaching three- and four-year-olds, I knew it was time for me to be thinking about the perfect retirement job. I was thrilled to become an assistant librarian here at the Lake Placid Public Library and it has proven to be such a wonderful experience. The library staff was all so helpful to me as I was learning the library system. The mountains and lakes are what makes this small town so special to live in. But the people and the visitors make it an exciting place to grow.
