Benjamin L. Cho

Dr. Cho is an assistant clinical professor at Oregon Health & Science University Medical School and was the former president of both the Oregon Society of Medical Oncology and Willamette Valley Cancer Institute.

Dr. Christopher Yasenchak

Trained at the Mayo Clinic graduate school, Dr. Yasenchak is a respected researcher who has also earned high honors for his skills as a physician, making the Top Doctor lists for both U.S. News & World Report and Portland Monthly Magazine.

Dr. Keith Wells

Dr. Marc Uemura

Recognizing that oncology is a unique and complex field of medicine, Dr. Uemura is a dedicated researcher of new information and values opportunities to learn from and collaborate with other physicians. He serves on the US Oncology phase 1 and gastrointestinal research committees in order to bring new and innovative clinical trials to patients at WVCI.

Dr. Matthew Lonergan - President

Dr. Lonergan joined WVCI after spending 13 years in clinical practice in Kirkland, Washington. He was named Seattle Metropolitan magazine's "Top Doctor" for Medical Oncology 2015, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is a past president and current executive board member of the Washington State Medical Oncology Society. From 2018 to the end of 2023, Dr. Lonergan served as medical director for Willamette Valley Cancer Institute, until on January 1, 2024, he transitioned to Practice President.

Dr. Merideth Wendland

Dr. Wendland brings her hope, respect and a penchant for collaboration and communication to work every day on behalf of her patients, as well as her experience and focus on advances in technology and patient-centered care. She is the former national chairwoman of the US Oncology Network's Neuro-Oncology Radiation Research Committee.

Jeff Sharman

Job Titles:
  • Director of Research
Dr. Sharman is the director of research at the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute as well as the medical director of hematology research for The US Oncology Network. He is well versed in the latest scientific breakthroughs across a diversity of cancers. He's been instrumental in developing a number of important advances in treatment and is widely published within the current scientific literature, including several publications within the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Blood and others. The research program in Eugene has developed an international reputation in several different types of cancer and Dr. Sharman has presented findings at major conferences in the US, Asia, and Europe.

Kathleen Y. Yang

Thoughtful and outgoing, Dr. Yang provides individualized care and enjoys making personal connections with her patients. In addition to seeing patients at the Country Club location, she runs WVCI's clinic in Corvallis.
