When Melvin Chandler left as a weaver at the Slater Mill in 1962 and began making reed hooks for Slater and other surrounding Mills, he started a tradition of quality that still continues today. Upon his retirement and subsequent sale to the Mullins family in 1987, he trained both David and Brian extensively in the processes necessary to produce the highest quality reed hooks and reed knives available. Today, each reed hook is still prepared by hand using only the finest steel and brass available. We offer round and flat material, regular and no-drop eyes as well as shuttle and leno hooks. Any custom styles that you may require are also welcome.
