Akiko Hart

Akiko works as the Interim Director of Liberty, an advocacy group and membership organisation which challenges unjust laws, protects civil liberties, and promotes human rights. She was previously CEO of the National Survivor User Network (NSUN), a mental health charity led by and for people with lived experience. Akiko's previous roles include Director of NGO Mental Health Europe, as well as leading a service at Mind in Camden for people who hear voices, working in the community, youth services, forensic settings, and Immigration Removal Centres. Akiko is a Professor in Practice at the Institute of Medical Humanities at the University of Durham, and has been a trustee on a number of charity boards, most recently National Voices and ISPS UK.

Alex Bennett

With broad experience across businesses, political organisations and charities, Alex has led PBE's Development team since April 2022, with much of his time spent meeting with philanthropists, donors, businesses, grant-making organisations and potential supporters of PBE's work. He is responsible for growing and diversifying the organisation's income both from philanthropy and through its economic and research services. Inspired by the notion of ‘being part of something bigger than oneself', Alex moved from 15 years in the commercial sector to the charity sector in 2017 and has never looked back. He has experience on development boards of industry bodies and is presently a Trustee and member of the Finance Sub-Committee for Eden Rivers Trust, a rivers conservation charity in Cumbria.

Alexa Sage

Alexa Sage is the Director of Inside Impact, an organisation focused on capability-building in impact practice for the public, private, and voluntary sectors through innovative training, coaching, and consultancy. Working for infrastructure bodies and membership organisations in the not-for-profit sector, she has supported over 100 organisations to become more efficient and effective in their impact practice to secure millions in funding, win awards, influence policy and become sector thought leaders. Andy Haldane - President

Andy Haldane is the Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). He joined the RSA as Chief Executive in 2021 after more than 30 years at the Bank of England, latterly as the Bank's Chief Economist and a member of the Monetary Policy Committee. Among other positions, he is Honorary Professor at the Universities of Nottingham, Manchester and Exeter, Visiting Professor at King's College, London, a Visiting Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Social Sciences. Andy co-founded PBE with fellow economist Martin Brookes in 2009 and became the organisation's President in 2022, having previously served as a Trustee. He is also Vice-Chair of charity National Numeracy and Chair of the National Numeracy Leadership Council. Andy served as Permanent Secretary for Levelling Up at the Cabinet Office from September 2021 to March 2022 and chairs the Government's Levelling Up Advisory Council. He has authored around 200 articles and four books.

Anoushka Kenley

Anoushka oversees PBE projects that support groups of charities working together for impact. She has a particular interest in social sector data and leads PBE's campaign for a civil society satellite account. Anoushka has experience in developing theories of change, impact measurement, policy research and quantitative analysis. She joined PBE in 2020 to help deliver the Law Family Commission on Civil Society and is responsible for ensuring the Commission's recommendations on evidence and effectiveness are put into practice. Prior to joining PBE, Anoushka managed operations for an arts and homelessness charity, supported charities with impact measurement and held various roles in the Government Economic Service. She has volunteered for lots of different charities in the UK and abroad.

Becci Fitzjohn

Becci joined PBE in April 2023 as the Digital Communications Officer. Belinda Phipps

Belinda Phipps graduated with a BSc Hons in Microbiology. She joined Glaxo Pharmaceuticals becoming UK Marketing Manager. Whilst completing an MBA at Ashridge Management College she joined the Blood Transfusion Service as Chief Executive with a view to leading a merger. After a period managing a Medical Publishing company she became Chief Executive of an NHS Trust. Belinda joined the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) as Chief Executive in 1999. She became Chief Executive of the Science Council in 2015 was Chair of the Fawcett Society and Chair of the NMC Appointments Board and a PipUK Patron. Since then has had a spell at the BMA as interim CEO and is now interim CEO for the drug alcohol and mental health charity WithYou. She has also been a local councillor and runs the local Transition Town group.

Bronwyn Curtis

Bronwyn is an economist whose career spans both the financial markets and the media. She is a widely published author and a regular speaker on television and radio. Bronwyn has been Non-Executive Director of JP Morgan Asian Investment Trust since September 1, 2013, and was previously the Head of Global Research at HSBC, Research Division where she managed the HSBC global research operations and portfolio. Other roles include Global Head of Currency and Fixed Income Strategy at Deutsche Bank and Chief Economist at Nomura International. Bronwyn is also a board member of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, and a former member of the Council at the London School of Economics. She is also on the Advisory Board at Imperial College Business School, as well as a member of The Times newspaper's Shadow Monetary Policy Committee.

Cassia Dingwall - COO

Cassia Dingwall is Director of Operations and Finance and has been with PBE since 2018. Cassia is in charge of finance, HR, governance and IT. She works across the organisation to ensure PBE has a thriving culture and strong focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and internal wellbeing. Cassia also manages PBE's financial position, processes, audit and risk, and works closely with PBE's Board of Trustees, sub-committees and Senior Management Team to ensure they have the appropriate information and awareness of the organisational strategic priorities. Cassia is a member of the Think Tank Diversity Network, promoting best practice and encouraging diverse applicants into the think tank sector.

Catherine Bunting

Catherine is a quantitative researcher at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health, where she studies the benefits and costs of health visiting for children and families. Catherine has an MSc in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and specialises in using large datasets to evaluate the impact of health policies and services. Catherine provides evaluation consultancy to charities and is an experienced trainer and facilitator. She delivers PBE's Unlocking Impact workshops, in which charities learn how they can use economics to measure and demonstrate the value of their work.

Damien Régent works as a non-executive director with multiple organisations. He is a finance and risk analysis professional by background. Deniece Anderson-Dow

Deniece joined PBE's Operations team following a period of growth within the organisation. Diane Coyle is Professor of Social Policy at University of Cambridge. She was previously a professor of economics at the University of Manchester and founded the consultancy Enlightenment Economics. Diane has a wealth of experience within the economics profession, having previously been the Vice Chair of the BBC Trust and a member of the Competition Commission and the Migration Advisory Committee. Dr Beth Kitson

Before joining PBE, Beth worked in engagement at the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO). At IPSO, she led the training programme on editorial standards, working with media outlets, policy officials and social sector organisations. Beth received her PhD from the University of Oxford in 2022. Her thesis analysed the histories of wellbeing, gender and immigration. Alongside her research, Beth was the Coordinator for the Centre of Gender, Identity and Subjectivity, and taught gender and economic history. Beth also has a MPhil in Economic and Social History from the University of Cambridge. Outside of work, Beth spends her time practising yoga, learning French and exploring London.

Dr Rubina Ahmed

Dr Rubina Ahmed is the Director of Research, Policy and Services at Blood Cancer UK, where she is accountable for the delivery of the charity's mission-focused programmes. Dr Sushil Wadhwani

Dr Sushil Wadhwani CBE is currently CEO of Wadhwani Asset Management LLP and a partner of Caxton Associates. Sushil was a full-time external member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England between June 1999 and May 2002. From 1995 to 1999 Dr Wadhwani was Head of the Quantitative Systems Group, a member of the Management Committee and Partner at Tudor Proprietary Trading LLC. He was previously Director of Equity Strategy at Goldman Sachs International from 1991 to 1995 and before that Reader/Lecturer in Economics at the London School of Economics from 1984 to 1991. Dr Wadhwani was educated at the London School of Economics, where he obtained a BSc (Econ), MSc (Econ) and PhD (Econ). He was designated a Commander of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours List in 2002. Dr. Wadhwani was a Partner of Caxton Associates from 2012 to 2016.

Gavyn Davies - Chairman

Gavyn is Chairman of Fulcrum and Head of the Fulcrum Investment Committee, and was previously the Chairman of the BBC from 2001-2004. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1986 and was a Partner from 1988 to 2001, as well as being the firm's Chief Economist over that period and Chairman of the Research Department. Gavyn has spent working in government as a member of H.M.Treasury Independent Forecasting Panel (1992-1997). He began his career as an Economist, first with Phillips and Drew (1979-1981) then Simon and Coates (1981-1986). Gavyn graduated in Economics from St. John's College, Cambridge in 1972. Jack joined PBE as a Research and Policy Analyst in October 2020 and was heavily involved with the two-year Law Family Commission on Civil Society, exploring themes such as levelling up, charity sector productivity and the impact of the pandemic on civil society. He specialises in qualitative research and especially enjoys data visualisation. Jack leads PBE's research work in a number of key areas, including PBE's collaboration with the National VCSE Data and Insights Observatory on the VCSE Barometer Survey, our response to fiscal events, such as the Budget, and our local election commentary. Outside of work he has a young family, runs a small amateur football club and enjoys cycling.

Jenny Scott

Jenny Scott is a founder partner at Apella Advisors and a senior advisor to North Star Transition. Jenny began her career as an economist at the Bank of England before becoming an economic journalist for a number of years, first with Reuters and then with the BBC where she was a regular correspondent across television and radio. Jenny then returned to the Bank of England as Executive Director for communications throughout the financial crisis and Brexit referendum. Jenny is a trustee for PBE and also for WCCM, a meditation charity.

Jon Franklin

Jon oversees the development of services provided by PBE to support social sector organisations and funders to measure their economic impact, as well as supporting the organisation's wider research and policy programme. He has supervised or directly delivered more than 30 reports for charities and co-authored a report examining the challenges of measuring the value of the non-profit sector. He helped to develop the content for a training course and advice programme that has now been delivered to more than 130 charities, receiving an average recommendation score of 9.8 out of 10. Prior to working with PBE, Jon worked for the Government Economic Service for 13 years, focusing on policy appraisal, evaluation and forecasting in the taxation, property and aviation sectors.

Jonathan Loynes

Jonathan Loynes is an experienced economist who spent 18 years at economic consultancy Capital Economics. He helped to build the organisation into one of the world's leading independent research firms and, as Chief Economist, oversaw the output of over 50 economists around the world. He was also the main point of contact for the company's many clients and was widely quoted in the media on a range of economic issues. Previously, he was Chief UK Economist at HSBC. Josh Martin

Josh Martin is an economic advisor for Jonathan Haskel at the Bank of England. He worked at the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in a range of roles between 2016 and 2022, most recently as Head of Productivity statistics. Josh's research relates to measuring capital, especially intangible assets, measuring the productivity of hard-to-measure activities, and analysis of productivity. His work on the productivity of the UK non-profit sector (with PBE Chief Economist, Jon Franklin) is published in the International Productivity Monitor, and he previously worked with PBE on a feasibility study for a civil society satellite account. He holds a BSc in Economics, an MSc in Data Analytics for Government, and is currently studying a part-time PhD in Economic Measurement at King's College London.

Karol Rodriguez Cabrera

Karol has experience in research and the public sector. Her background includes engaging in research collaboration projects at institutions such as the Institute of Development Studies in the UK and the United Nations University in the Netherlands. Additionally, she has undertaken consultancy projects with the World Bank and the OECD and previously worked as a public servant at the Department of Planning in Colombia and the Ministry of Education. Karol's primary research interests revolve around public policy, household dynamics and children's wellbeing, specifically focusing on development interventions. She is passionate about the mechanisms behind poverty and the role of interventions in tackling it. She holds a bachelor's and master's degree in economics and is reading a PhD in Economics of Development. Karol enjoys dancing and painting in her spare time and is learning how to play the piano.

Lord Adair Turner

Lord Adair Turner is a British businessman and academic and was Chairman of the Financial Services Authority until its abolition in March 2013. He is the former Chairman of the Pensions Commission and the Committee on Climate Change, as well as the former Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry. In April 2013 he became a Senior Fellow of the Institute for New Economic Thinking and wrote a book, "Between Debt and the Devil: Money, Credit, and Fixing Global Finance". He is now Chairman of the Institute, and, since early 2016, has chaired the Energy Transitions Commission. In 2015, he was co-author of the report that launched the Global Apollo Programme, which calls for developed nations to commit to spending 0.02% of their GDP for 10 years, to fund co-ordinated research to make carbon-free baseload electricity less costly than electricity from coal by the year 2025.

Lord Gus O'Donnell

Lord Gus O'Donnell is a former British senior civil servant and economist, who between 2005 and 2011 served as the Cabinet Secretary, the highest official in the British Civil Service. From joining the Treasury as an economist, and serving in the British Embassy in Washington, involved with the IMF and World Bank, he became Permanent Secretary of the Treasury in 2002. Since leaving the Civil Service in 2011, and being appointed a Life Peer in 2012, he has been involved in many areas: the chair of Frontier Economics, a visiting professor to the London School of Economics and University College London, a trustee of the Economist Group, a strategic adviser to the Chief Executive of Toronto Dominion Bank, on the main board of Brookfield Asset Management, President of the Council of the Institute of Fiscal Studies, and Chair of Trustees of Pro Bono Economics.

Lord Jim O'Neill

Jim left Government in September 2016, having been Commercial Secretary to the Treasury from May 2015 until September. During that time, and indeed, since Spring 2014, Lord O'Neill Chaired a formal Review into AMR (antimicrobial resistance) publishing their final recommendations in May 2015, which helped drive the government's strategy as well as providing key input to the UN high level agreement in September. Until October 2014, Jim chaired the Cities Growth Commission in the UK, when it provided its final recommendations, which formed the basis for the government's approach to devolution and the concept of the Northern Powerhouse. He is Honorary Chair of Economics at Manchester University. Jim worked for Goldman Sachs from 1995 until April 2013, spending most of his time there as Chief Economist. Jim is the creator of the acronym "BRIC". In early 2014, Jim made a documentary series for the BBC entitled MINT:The Next Economic Giants. He is one of the founding trustees of the UK educational charity, SHINE, and became lifetime President after joining government. Jim has served on the boards of a number of educational foundations.
