Alison Connolly

Job Titles:
  • Head of People and Culture
It is Alison's responsibility to ensure that Causeway is a positive and supportive place to work, as well as ensuring the whole employee journey is a great one. She oversees the employee experience, from recruitment, to learning and development, employee wellbeing, as well as ensuring that our workplace is inclusive, and employees feel valued. It is essential that in order for our employees to provide excellent support to our service users, our staff must have the tools, resources and support to provide that standard of excellence. Alison started her career in finance before moving to a career in People, and working within the People and Culture Department as a manager before her appointment as Head of People and Culture in early 2023.

Amelia Clarke

Job Titles:
  • Head of Service Assurance
Amelia manages our day-to-day service delivery to ensure that all of our services are working to provide the best support to service users. This is achieved through aspects such as contract compliance and monitoring data. Amelia joined Causeway's modern slavery department in 2016 and moved into her current role in 2023. Prior to this she worked at a major lighting exporter. "I like to get things done, to make things work smoothly, to ensure service users have the best experiences in our services and staff have the systems in place to make that happen"

Amy Bond - COO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Operating Officer
Amy oversees all of our day-to-day operations, to ensure the smooth running of the charity and delivery of our strategic and contractual objectives. This includes oversight of Services, People & Culture, Fundraising & Business Development and Communications & Engagement. She began her career working for the NHS as an occupational therapist with adults with complex needs, before joining Causeway in 2015. "During my time at Causeway I've seen thousands of lives positively impacted as a result of the team's hard work, and I'll forever be humbled by the fact that we get to work with some of the most resilient and brave individuals in our society."

Ben Greaves

Job Titles:
  • Head of Anti - Slavery Services
Ben oversees all our anti-slavery services, ensuring high standards of support for our service users, fostering a great working environment for the team, and ensuring compliance with contractual and legal obligations. He has been working at Causeway for the last six years, starting from working with survivors on the frontline and progressing through to his current position.

Dave Gore

Job Titles:
  • Trustee
Dave has held numerous safeguarding positions across a number of charitable organisations, including within the youth sector, and more recently within the humanitarian sector where he was responsible for leading safeguarding and culture change projects around the world. These included implementing safeguarding best practice across projects based in Iraq, and working for a charity within the UK that supports refugees, including survivors of modern slavery. "My time working within the humanitarian sector exposed me to the conditions that people are forced to flee from that makes them vulnerable to becoming victims of modern slavery. I have been aware of the amazing work Causeway does within local communities, and it is a privilege to be able to support this vital work as a trustee."

Deepa Mistry - CFO

Job Titles:
  • Chief Finance Officer
Deepa is responsible for providing financial information and analysis to the Board of Trustees and Management Board, helping to direct the strategy, and is tasked with securing the financial health of Causeway. This includes oversight of the Finance, IT, Governance, Risk and Procurement areas. Deepa is a senior finance professional, NED and STEM Role model driven by an aspiration to make the world safer for all; regardless of race, gender and social background. "In a post-pandemic era, the world is waking up to the injustices faced by the marginalised and vulnerable, and I am drawn to Causeway to help sustain the crucial support, freedoms and fair experiences essential to survivors of modern slavery."

Edwin Buckley

Job Titles:
  • Head of Communications and Engagement
Edwin oversees our Communications and Engagement team. They look after everything from marketing, strategic engagement and brand management - through to public relations, digital communications and content. Edwin joined Causeway in 2023 after a background holding media and communications roles at a wide range of organisations including Prostate Cancer UK, Natural England and the BBC. "I am passionate about raising awareness of what Causeway do and the areas we work across. However most importantly, I'm committed to elevating the voices of our survivors and service users."

Faye Smith

For the past 15 years Faye has run her own marketing and PR consultancy where she has specialised in amplifying the messages of charities in the media. She came across Causeway at a women's networking event where she was touched by the powerful story of a woman who had been forced into sexual exploitation. Faye immediately wanted to help, and became a trustee as she champions the cause and shares the values of the organisation.

Geoff Cheshire

Job Titles:

Geoff has decades of experience supporting vulnerable people, both in his role as a police officer, and later in his work with the Red Cross. "I chose to become a trustee for Causeway as I have a real passion for helping people who have been forced into a life that they would not have chosen. In my ‘day job' I work for the British Red Cross, and had the opportunity to develop the Modern Slavery Network in Merseyside, and to introduce a Human Trafficking response team into the Red Cross in Manchester and Merseyside. My interest and involvement in this issue stems back to a former career in the police where I was actively involved in hostage negotiation and in the recovery of people who were being held against their will."

Helen Ball - CEO

Helen is an experienced strategic leader with a passion for supporting marginalised people find their place in society. "I am proud to be Chief Executive Officer for Causeway. The charity delivers such vital support to those most vulnerable, and so often provides the lifeline that unlocks a safer and brighter future for so many. I look forward to building on the incredible success already achieved by the team and working with partners both current and new, to help build and advocate for a fairer and safer society."

Jennie Oswald

Job Titles:

Jennie has a wealth of knowledge and expertise around financial control and management, and is EMEA Financial Controller at the Macquarie Group. Jennie has volunteered previously for charities that support modern slavery, and wanted to continue focusing on this area when looking for a trustee role. She was drawn to Causeway by the role it plays in the community, and the difference it is making to people's lives. In 2023 Jennie stepped into the Chair of Trustees role on an interim basis. "I was attracted to Causeway because of the direction the charity is going in, and in my role as a financial controller, I felt there was a real opportunity for me to bring my skillset to the organisation and help drive its mission forward."

Joanne Black

Joanne oversees income generation at Causeway, including funding from trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, income from contracts and individual giving and events. She joined Causeway in 2023 having previously worked as Head of Fundraising and Impact for Bounce Back Foundation for over a decade and as a consultant for a wide range of other charities and social enterprises. "I have always been passionate about social mobility and empowering the most marginalised people in society to find their voice and reach their potential. Joining Causeway at such an exciting point in their history enables me to continue to do this by raising funds and developing partnerships to support our vital work."

Louise Andala

Margaret Lally

Job Titles:
  • Trustee
Margaret's background is in service development and management. As well as senior managerial roles in the NHS, Margaret was Director of Operations at the Refugee Council, and Director of Service Development at the British Red Cross. "A number of my roles have brought me into contact with people seeking sanctuary, including survivors of trafficking. I am particularly interested in advocacy, and this was a key part of my roles at the Refugee Council and the British Red Cross. I am now retired but I am a trustee/member of a number of organisations including the Detention Forum, where I can continue to advocate on behalf of people seeking sanctuary in the UK. I wanted to be a trustee of Causeway because I am strongly committed to supporting marginalised and vulnerable people to live their best lives, and I can see this is at the core of what this charity does."

Mominul Hamid

Md is an asylum seeker and survivor of modern slavery and human trafficking. He brings lived experience and survivor voice and perspective to his role as trustee. He is passionate about helping others, and has won numerous awards and plaudits for his campaign work around accessing higher education for refugees and asylum seekers, as well as for the support he offers to vulnerable people in his community. "My experience of the system motivated me to study law and to join the Board of Trustees at Causeway so that I could learn more about the sector, and to provide insight from my lived experience of trafficking. I am studying law at Northumbria University and am passionate about campaigning for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers."

Rachael has been part of Causeway since 2013, and as Head of Finance and Operations she is rigorous in her approach to the financial and operational management of the organisation, and is committed to its smooth running and the creation of strong foundations for the future. "I'm proud to be part of building an organisation that is robust and sustainable so we can ensure support for the people who need it most for years to come. To be able to say that I've played a part in improving hundreds of lives better, is an incredible thought."

Sebastien Baugh

Sebastien began his career as a physiotherapist, and worked clinically for over ten years. He then transitioned into the field of public health and local government as he was committed to making an impact on people's lives and communities. His passion now lies in addressing health inequalities and advocating for the support of vulnerable individuals in our society.

Stuart Otten

  • Head of Criminal Justice Services
Stuart leads the development and ongoing management of Causeway's criminal justice services, which includes all of our LifeNavigate programmes. With a background in social work, Stuart joined Causeway eight years ago, and in this time has been instrumental in building and diversifying the services we offer and engaging thousands of service users. "Due to my own lived experience, I have a passionate about helping others to break out of cycles of crime and building successful futures."
