Allison May is a retired attorney and former law partner at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP in the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group in the firm's Washington, D.C. office, where she counseled clients on credit card and payment systems transactions and transactions designed to leverage intellectual property and information technology within the financial services industry. She is a 1998 graduate of Georgetown Law School and the Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. Ms. May has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, and her interest in disability rights advocacy began when she was an undergraduate at Stanford University working with other students with disabilities during the years leading up to the passage of the ADA. She remains committed to helping achieve equal access to public accommodations, services and opportunities for people with all manner of disabilities.

Barb's experience includes executive and operational roles within technology companies, in which she successfully guided them through different stages of growth, from pre-funding to liquidity, facilitating successful IPOs and significant acquisitions.

Barry Taylor

Barry Taylor is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago Law School, where he has taught Disability Rights Law to second and third-year law students since 2021. From 1996-2023, Barry was the Vice President for Civil Rights and Systemic Litigation at Equip for Equality. At Equip for Equality, he developed, litigated, and oversaw many individual and systemic disability discrimination cases, including successful ADA suits against the National Board of Medical Examiners, the Chicago Police Department, and the Chicago Transit Authority. He was co-counsel in eight class actions, including lead counsel in Ligas v. Eagleson, a class action on behalf of people with developmental disabilities seeking community services. Prior to coming to Equip for Equality, Barry was the AIDS Project Attorney in the Midwest Regional Office of Lambda Legal working to advance the civil rights of people living with HIV/AIDS. His caseload included a successful challenge to discriminatory inquiries by the Chicago Public Schools on teacher applications. Bonnie Lewkowicz

Bonnie Lewkowicz graduated from CSU, Sonoma with a bachelors degree in Therapeutic Recreation and has worked in various capacities for over 25 years advocating for greater access to outdoor recreation and travel for people with disabilities. She founded and is director of Access Northern California, a non-profit organization specializing in accessible travel and recreation. She has authored an access guide to San Francisco and a book about accessible trails titled, "A Wheelchair Rider's Guide: San Francisco Bay and the Nearby Coast" and is a contributing travel writer for several travel magazines . She conducts disability awareness trainings for the hospitality industry and is nationally recognized as a leader in the emerging field of accessible tourism. Bonnie co-founded AXIS Dance Company, an internationally acclaimed dance company of dancers with and without disabilities. She tours nationally with the company and teaches creative dance to youth and adults of all abilities.

Brian Frumkin

Brian Frumkin has been an attorney with Bank of America for over 30 years, specializing in consumer financial services and digital payment solutions. He also provides legal advice on accessibility matters to the retail bank and is especially proud of his work in helping the Bank maintain a leadership position in accessible banking services. Beginning with the first nationwide "talking ATMs" and the first accessible financial institution website, Brian has supported the Bank's efforts to make its financial services available to all persons, regardless of their circumstances. Brian graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Michigan Law School and began his legal career in San Francisco before moving to Charlotte, NC. In his spare time, Brian is a proficient amateur cellist, an avid chamber music player and supporter of the arts. Brian has established a permanent scholarship for chamber music at the University of Wisconsin School of Music in Madison.

Brittany Castle joined Disability Rights Advocates in 2022 as a Staff Attorney. Prior to joining Disability Rights Advocates, she worked for several years representing immigrants detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, including as an attorney at the American Friends Service Committee and the Immigrant Defense Project. In these roles, she defended noncitizens against deportation and frequently litigated the legality of lengthy detention and conditions of confinement in immigration detention facilities. Brittany also volunteered with the Parole Preparation Project where she helped people incarcerated in New York state prisons prepare for hearings before the parole board. Brittany received her J.D. magna cum laude from NYU School of Law, where she was selected as an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellow and participated in the Advanced Immigrant Rights Clinic. Charles V. (Chuck) McAvoy

McAvoy served for 1 year as Board president of Access Northern California, providing resources for outdoor recreation for people with disabilities. Chuck is the former Board of Directors president of the Oakland based AXIS Dance Company, a world leader in the field of integrated dance. (Currently serving on the AXIS BOD) McAvoy is the recipient of the AT&T Telesis Award for community service. Chloe Holzman

Chloe Holzman joined Disability Rights Advocates in 2020 as a Staff Attorney and became a Senior Staff Attorney in 2022. Her past practice has focused on housing, public benefits, and reducing barriers to employment for people with disabilities. Prior to joining DRA, she was an Agency Attorney at the New York City Commission on Human Rights, where she prosecuted violations of the City's anti-discrimination law. Previously, she represented clients with mental illness in housing and other civil cases as a Senior Staff Attorney with the Mental Health Law Project at Mobilization for Justice (formerly MFY Legal Services). Additionally, she worked in the Disability Rights Section of the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, enforcing the integration mandate under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ms. Holzman's experience also includes post-graduate legal fellowships with an LGBTQI advocacy group in El Salvador and with the Legal Aid Society's Homeless Rights Project in NYC, as well as summer positions during law school with the HIV Project at Brooklyn Legal Services and at a civil rights firm in Washington, D.C. Jameelah Najieb

Jameelah also received the Public Interest Achievement Award for her volunteer work in the Children's Welfare Clinic. Josh Rosenthal

Before joining DRA, Mr. Rosenthal represented people with serious mental illness at Disability Rights New York, the state's protection and advocacy system. While there, he monitored conditions for people with disabilities who were hospitalized or incarcerated in New York and represented adults and children with disabilities in class action lawsuits that challenged the state's failure to provide community-based services. Mr. Rosenthal was also a senior staff attorney at Children's Rights, where he litigated class action lawsuits on behalf of youth in foster care and juvenile justice systems across the country. Ms. Hamilton has made her mark helping to lead and grow a wide variety of nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining DRA, Ms. Hamilton worked as the Development Director for Creating Economic Opportunities for Women (C.E.O. Women) and NatureBridge. Ms. Hamilton has served as a Board member, consultant, volunteer, and advisor for organizations including the Future Leaders Institute, Outdoor Afro, Kitchen Table Advisors and Net Impact-helping to increase revenue and maximize impact. Lucy Helm is executive vice president and chief partner officer. A partner (employee) since 1999, Lucy previously served as Starbucks executive vice president, general counsel and secretary for more than five years, and served as the interim leader of the Partner Resources organization (PRO) from March to July 2017. She is part of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to ceo Kevin Johnson. As general counsel, Lucy led the global Law & Corporate Affairs department, including more than 225 legal and compliance partners in 16 offices around the world. She served as a member of Starbucks senior leadership team and supported the company's Board of Directors. Throughout Lucy's tenure at Starbucks, she has been a voice for equality and a champion for diversity-she started the Starbucks Global Inclusion Council and served as a sponsor of multiple Partner Networks, including the Women's Development Network, Pride Network, and Access Alliance Network. Prior to joining Starbucks, Lucy was a principal at Riddell Williams P.S. in Seattle, where she was a trial lawyer. She was also an assistant director and advocacy director at the Center for Accessible Living in Louisville, Kentucky. Lucy received her B.A. in political science with highest honors from the University of Louisville and is a cum laude graduate of the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. She was recognized as an Alumni Fellow of the University of Louisville School of Arts and Sciences (2008) and as an Alumni Fellow of the Brandeis School of Law (2014). Her favorite Starbucks beverage is a Nitro Cold Brew.
