Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA or FA) is a rare, genetic, neurodegenerative, multi-system, life-shortening disorder. The FA incidence rate is about 1 in 50,000 births. From this NINDS website, "Symptoms typically begin between the ages of 5 and 15 years, although they sometimes appear in adulthood.
