HACKETT LANDING SLIPWAY

Hackett Landing Slipway is a small friendly Northland business for slipping and maintaining boats in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. Ron Hackett and his wife Heather have been successfully running the business for over 20 years. Ron is a passionate boat builder with over 40 years experience, and he specializes in traditional wooden boat building techniques. He has completed a traditional "Slocum Spray" replica (first vessel to sail around the world solo, Joshua Slocum). In recent years he managed the luxurious restoration of the Waitemata, a 100 year old pilot boat that worked in the Waitemata harbour until the 1950's. He has lovingly hand crafted a number of traditional kauri whaleboats which have taken part in annual races in the Kawhia harbour.
