Allyn Raw

Job Titles:

Allyn has a degree in European Studies from the University of Essex and a teaching certificate from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has been at H.I.S. since 2003 and is an IB Workshop Leader, working with teachers in other schools to develop understanding of the PYP.

Anke Schumacher

  • Admissions Counsellor
Anke has 15 years of teaching experience at German and International Schools. After moving to Heidelberg in 2007, she joined H.I.S. as a German Teacher. Anke took on the role of Middle Years Programme Coordinator for 8 years, guiding H.I.S. through the IB Authorization in 2012 and the IB Evaluation in 2015. Since 2018, Anke has been responsible for Admissions at H.I.S.

Faida Röhner

Faida's teaching career started in urban education in the United States. Since then, she has worked in the German school system, as well as another IB school before coming to H.I.S. In each setting, she has seen the power of inquiry-based learning first-hand. Through these experiences, she developed a passion for working with diverse communities and implementing the IB PYP.

Jorge Lopez

  • Primary School Principal
Jorge studied International Relations and Music. After his studies he worked in an IB school in Mexico and he he also co-owned a music school. At H.I.S. Jorge has worked in many areas. In 2019 Jorge had the responsibility for establishing the After School Care Programme for students in the Primary School.

Kevin Whitmore

Kevin has a Masters degree in Information Technology in Education. He has over 25 years of teaching and administrative experience. He worked at Osaka International School in Osaka, Japan and before that as Head of Technology at Marcellin College in Melbourne, Australia.

Nathalie Sommer - Managing Director

Nathalie is a native of Heidelberg and remained in the city to study Marketing and Health Management. She moved on to Stuttgart and Berlin where she completed a Masters in Business Administration. Before joining H.I.S., Nathalie worked in Event Management and spent a year in Syracuse, New York as an exchange student.

Sarah Al-Benna

Sarah studied Chemistry at University College London before continuing her studies and completing a PhD in 2002 in inorganic chemistry at the University of Leeds. Following this she completed her PGCE teaching qualification in sciences, after which, she taught in the UK, in Reading and Chester, followed by a year at The International School of London. She then moved Germany with her family in 2008 where she has since been at H.I.S. teaching sciences in the MYP and Chemistry in the DP.

William Ledbetter

William has spent more than half of his teaching career in Germany, where he taught English and Social Studies in Rhineland-Palatinate, and was a lecturer at the University of Heidelberg. In 2013, he joined H.I.S. as an English teacher in the MYP and DP. He was College Counsellor until 2019 and Accreditation Co-ordinator from 2018 until assuming the role of Diploma Co-ordinator.
