The first personality test was developed by Katherine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Brigg Myers during World War 2. The aim of the test was to help women who were entering the industrial workforce for the first time to identify the sort of war-time jobs where they would be "most comfortable and effective". Today, such tests are used for individual and relationship counseling, career planning, employment selection and development.
