Originally known as the Manchester Civic Orchestra, it was later renamed the Manchester Symphony Orchestra in 1965... Based in Manchester's iconic Bridgewater Hall, the Orchestra puts on over 150 concerts per year including classical symphonic concerts, pops, family and outreach events. It also regularly collaborates with top guest artists from around the world... As an anchor cultural institution for the city, the Manchester Symphony Orchestra aims to make orchestral music accessible and engaging to the diverse communities across Greater Manchester. Along with main stage performances, the Orchestra has an active community outreach and music education program - touching the lives of over 15,000 Manchester school children each year through concerts, workshops, instrument drives and mentorships.
