The corner of 13th & South Streets has a long history in Lincoln, NE. The business "geneology" of this historic corner was dates back to the Danek Bros. Grocery which operated in the 1950's and 1960's. In 1964, Mitch Tavlin purchased the the old Danek Bros. building and had it razed and replaced by the current structure. The original block foundation was left in-tact however, keeping part of the Danek Bros. story alive. In 1978, Meier's Cork ‘n Bottle was born. Ken Meier's vision for a wine focused retail store proved to be well ahead of it's time. Lincoln had never had a true wine shop. There were plenty of liquor stores that had small wine selections, but Ken realized a niche that wasn't being met in Lincoln and Meier's Cork 'n Bottle quickly grew a reputation for having the best service, selection and most knowledgeable staff in the area.
