I have been teaching for 17 years. My career began in Edmonton where I taught many years in kindergarten and specialized pre-kindergarten.
During that time, I met a farmer named Joe and decided to marry him - which is what brought me to a farm north of Vega. I began teaching at Eleanor Hall School in Clyde, working everywhere from kindergarten to Grade 2.
Joe and I have a wonderful son named Sam, who is 5 this year. Together, we love to read, use our imaginations, and get outside to explore God's beautiful creation.

Hi there! My name is Katlyn Wierenga and I currently teach kindergarten & early learning students at NPCS. My husband and I live on an acreage only a few minutes away from the hamlet. We have a daughter, Meredith and a son named Brooks. I transferred to NPCS from Barrhead Elementary School in 2021. What I have loved most about teaching in Neerlandia is witnessing the excitement and joy students have for learning all about God's word.
Kym joined NPCS staff during the 2022-2023 year and will continue to work as an Educational Assistant for the 2023-2024 year.
Update: For the beginning of the 2023/2024 school year, Mrs. Mast is on maternity leave. As of Nov. 10, 2022 Mrs. Laura Mast began a maternity leave. Ms. Lisa Gehring took over the Gr. 2/3 teaching position as of Dec. 1, 2022.
This will be my eighth year of teaching, but my third at NPCS. I am excited to spend this fall at school after being at home for all of last year on maternity leave. My husband and I own a small hobby farm south of Neerlandia, where we are currently raising our kids (Keith, 4 and Marie, 2 and Joyce, 10 months) alongside some animal friends. We love spending time together whether it be outside exploring, going on tractor rides, or hanging out with our extended families. For the past 7 years I have taught grade 1 in Westlock, followed by 4 years teaching grades K-9 at Pibroch Hutterite Colony School, and finally spending the last 2 years teaching grade 3 and 1 in Neerlandia. My experience with a variety of grades and teaching scenarios has taught me a lot about myself as a teacher. I have taught many combined grade subjects before and I am excited to dive into a combined classroom again! This year I will be teaching a Grade 2/3 combined class. Combined classrooms are such a blessing in that they allow us to appreciate the many talents and ranges of abilities in students across grades, while also discovering new friendships we may not have otherwise. I am passionate about my students and truly believe that each child brings something special to the classroom. I grew up loving school and learning and my goal is to transfer that love for learning and discovering new things to each student I teach.
Nicole Wierenga joined the team at Neerlandia Public Christian School in the spring of 2022. She is an educational assistant that works mostly with lower elementary students.
Note: Renee Rentz is on maternity leave for the start of 2023-2024 school year. Ms. Natalie Borzel will be the Grade One teacher as her replacement (her last name will change as she will be getting married at end of Sept. 2023)
