St. John the Apostle was one of Jesus' 12 Apostles and the son of Zebedee and Salome. John is usually listed as one of the youngest apostles. Jesus designated him the protector of Mary (Jesus' mother)... The only two apostles instructed by Jesus to prepare the final Passover dinner were John and Peter. Rather than resting on the couches, St. John sat close to Jesus, leaning on him during the supper. In addition, he was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not abandon Jesus... Following the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, John believed to have occupied a place of power in the early church. John is claimed to have died at Ephesus, a city within Turkey. and his tomb has since become a popular religious tourism destination.
