Jennifer Barton is an Associate professor of Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Optical Sciences and Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at the University of Arizona (UA). She is also the Assistant Director of the BIO5 Institute and the Arizona Cancer Center and the Director of the Biomedical Engineering Division of Arizona Research Labs. Her research interests include optical coherence tomography and fluorescence spectroscopy of skin, colon, and ovary, as well as laser-blood vessel interaction. Particular emphasis has been paid in her work to early detection of cancer, the healing response to artificial implants, and the dynamic optical properties of blood during photocoagulation. Dr. Barton is currently the Chair of UA's Biomedical Engineering Graduate Interdisciplinary Program. She received the BS and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and University of California, Irvine, respectively. She worked for McDonnell Douglas on the Space Station program before returning to The University of Texas at Austin to obtain the PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 1998. She and her husband have two children.
