COTSWOLD RHEUMATOLOGY - Key Persons

I was born in 1958, educated at Clifton College, Bristol, and then trained in medicine at St George's Hospital Medical School, London, U.K., obtaining BSc in medical science and physiology in 1979 and qualifying MB, BS in 1982. I then trained further in general medicine, and specialised in Rheumatology from 1986. I held an ARC research grant and was awarded a doctorate (M.D.) for research into bone cell biology in 1992 under supervision of Professor Tim Chambers in London and achieved specialist recognition in Rheumatology and General (Internal) Medicine in 1995 I was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist to Great Western Hospital Swindon in 1995 and awarded fellowship of both the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Ireland and London in 1998. I am also a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and member of the British Society for Rheumatology. During my career I have held the posts of Royal College of Physicians college tutor for the hospital, and regional speciality advisor for the Oxford region. Within the trust I have been clinical director for acute medicine and then for non- acute medicine as well as being clinical lead for rheumatology from 1999 to 2021. I have also been Director of Research for the trust and vice-chairman and a Divisional Director of the West of England Comprehensive Local Research Network.
