Dr Alexandra Evans

Dr Evans graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1988. She undertook her specialist training in anaesthesia through The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, which she completed in 1999. Dr Evans has continued her close association with The Alfred Hospital Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine as a Visiting Medical Officer and VMO representative on the Department Executive Committee. Dr Evans also works regularly at Cabrini Hospital Malvern and Hobson's Bay Endoscopy Centres. She was the anaesthesia representative on the Blood Transfusion Committee, Cabrini from 2001-2011. Dr Evans' area of special interest is anaesthesia for surgery on the liver, biliary tree, pancreas and spleen, including anaesthesia for rare neuroendocrine tumours including patients with Carcinoid Syndrome. She is author of a book chapter entitled 'Carcinoid Syndrome' in the textbook 'Perioperative Medicine for the Junior Clinician'. Dr Evans is an active participant in the Continuing Professional Development Program run by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

Dr Anne Frankl

Dr Frankl graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School in 1987. Her anaesthesia training took place at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne and included rotations at Geelong Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital and Monash Medical Centre. To complete her anaesthesia training, Dr Frankl worked at the Children's Hospital Boston in the USA for 12 months (1996/1997). Children's Hospital Boston is the primary paediatric teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. In Boston, she gained invaluable experience in all areas of Paediatric Anaesthesia. Dr Frankl completed her Specialist Anaesthesia training in 1997 and is a Fellow of the Australasian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA). On her return to Australia, Dr Frankl worked at Monash Medical Centre where she was involved with teaching anaesthesia trainees and medical simulation. Since 2007, Dr Frankl has worked exclusively in private anaesthesia practice. Her areas of special interest are Paediatric Anaesthesia and anaesthesia for plastic surgery, ENT surgery, dental surgery and gynaecology. Dr Frankl works regularly at several private hospitals around Melbourne including Cabrini Medical Centre, Masada Private Hospital and Knox Private Hospital. She is a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists, Society for Paediatric Anaesthesia in New Zealand and Australia and Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (USA). Dr Frankl is an active participant in the "Continuing Professional Development Program" run by the Australasian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.

Dr Arthur Cheung

Dr Arthur Cheung graduated from The University of Melbourne Medical School in 2000. He commenced his specialist anaesthetic training in 2006 at the Austin Hospital. During his training he gained experience from various hospitals across Victoria and United Kingdom. In 2011, he completed his provisional fellowship at The Mercy Hospital for Women and Monash Medical Centre. He currently holds public appointments as a Visiting Specialist Anaesthetist at Austin Hospital, Box Hill Hospital and Casey Hospital. He enjoys working in a wide spectrum of clinical anaesthetic specialties, such as Maxillofacial/Dental, Orthopaedic, ENT, Urology, Paediatric, Obstetric, Colorectal, Hepatobiliary, Neurosurgery, Thoracic and Plastic/Reconstructive surgery. He is a mentor for many anaesthetic trainees across his public posts and volunteers bi-annually at the airway teaching workshops with Eastern Health. He regularly attends quality assurance meetings and is an active participant of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program under Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA). He has also obtained clinical privileges at various private hospital networks including Epworth, St. Vincent's, Healthscope, Ramsay, St John of God and HealtheCare.

Dr David Gilbert

Dr Gilbert graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1997. His advanced training in anaesthesia took place at The Austin Hospital, The Northern Hospital, The Mercy Hospital for Women, and the Royal Children's Hospital. He undertook subsequent specialist fellowship training in neurosurgical anaesthesia at Vancouver General Hospital, British Columbia, Canada. He works regularly at several private hospitals throughout Melbourne, including The Epworth, Cabrini, Western Private, Melbourne Private, and The Mercy. Dr Gilbert's areas of interest include neurosurgery, laparoscopic & bariatric surgery, obstetrics, orthopaedics, endoscopy and ambulatory surgery. Dr Gilbert participates in ongoing professional development with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and is a member of the Australian Medical Association.

Dr Derek Browell

Dr Browell trained both in the UK and Australia. He has a mixed anaesthetic practice that includes obstetrics. His other interests include retrieval medicine and he is an occasional anaesthetics simulator instructor.

Dr Eamonn Mathieson

Dr Mathieson graduated from Monash University in 1992. He qualified as a Specialist Anaesthetist in 2002 having completed his training through the Alfred hospital, and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Since qualifying Dr Mathieson has worked in both public and private practice. He currently works at the Mercy Hospital for Women and also several private hospitals across Melbourne, including St Vincent's Private, Epworth Richmond, Cabrini Malvern, Western Private, Warringal Private, Glenferrie Private and Peninsula Private Hospital. His areas of interest include Orthopaedic Surgery, Spinal Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Urology, Endoscopy, and Ambulatory surgery. Dr Mathieson participates in ongoing Professional Development with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and is a member of the Australian Medical Association.

Dr Ian Letson

Dr Letson is a graduate of Monash University. He trained in Anaesthesia at the Austin Hospital, Northern Hospital, Mercy Hospital for Women, Royal Children's Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. His usual area of practice is in obstetrics, gynaecology, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, urology, endoscopy, and general surgery. He maintains public appointments at the Austin Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for Women. He is actively involved in teaching at the medical undergraduate and post-graduate level.

Dr Jennifer Hall

Dr Hall has a public appointment at the Alfred Hospital. She also has clinical privileges at the following private hospitals: Epworth Freemasons Cabrini Western Private Mercy Private Linacre

Dr Julia Clarke

Dr Julia Clarke obtained her medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 1990. She trained in anaesthesia at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, achieving her Fellowship to The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in the year 2000. Dr Clarke is currently a visiting consultant at The Mercy Hospital for Women, as well as working regularly at The Epworth Freemasons, Holmesglen Hospital, Knox Private Hospital and Digestive Health Centre in Dandenong. Her special interests are in the management of anaesthesia for obstetrics and gynaecology, in particular anaesthesia for reconstructive gynaecology, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. She also has a special interest in education, completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education through the University of Dundee. She has been the Supervisor of Anaesthetic Registrar Training at the Mercy Hospital, and she is currently involved in running the PROMPT program at the Mercy, which is a multi-professional training program in the management of obstetric emergencies. Dr Clarke is a member of the Australian Medical Association, and is an active member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists Continuing Professional Development Programme.

Dr Louise Simpson

Dr Louise Simpson graduated from Monash University and completed her postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at The Alfred Hospital. Louise spent her fellowship years at The Alfred, Royal Womens Hospital and Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She has an interest in anaesthesia for hepatobiliary surgery, plastics and general surgery. Additionally, she has also completed a research year at the Mayo Clinic, USA. Louise combines her public appointment with private practice, and is an active participant in continuing professional development activities.

Dr Mark Robertson

Dr. Robertson graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997. His advanced training in Anaesthesia took place in several major teaching hospitals in South East Queensland. He then worked as specialist Anaesthetist at St. Mary's hospital in London. He now practices at several private hospitals in Melbourne, including St. Vincent's, Mercy, Epworth and Cabrini private. Dr Robertson's areas of interest include Plastic/Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics and General surgery.

Dr Raymond Hui

Dr Hui graduated from Monash University in 1997. His training in anaesthetics took place at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (2001-2004), with his Fellowship year of training at St Vincent's Hospital (2005). Since qualifying as a specialist anaesthetist, Dr Hui has worked in various appointments at public hospitals including the Western Hospital and the Alfred Hospital. Currently, Dr Hui works regularly at several private hospitals including Cabrini (Malvern), Cabrini (Brighton), Western Private, Freemasons and The Avenue. Dr Hui's areas of interest include anaesthesia for orthopaedic surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, laparoscopic & bariatric surgery, endoscopy and plastic surgery.

Dr. Patricia Newell

Dr. Patricia Newell graduated from the University of Otago Medical School in 1991. She began her specialist training in anaesthesia at Christchurch Hospital, New Zealand, completing it at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 2001. Dr. Newell holds public appointments at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Mercy Hospital for Women. She also works regularly at The Epworth Hospital in Richmond, St Vincent's Private Hospital, and Mulgrave Private Hospital. Her areas of usual practice are anaesthesia for obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedic surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, urology, colorectal surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and neurosurgery. Dr. Newell has a special interest in education, regularly instructing on the Australian Resuscitation Council's Advanced Life Support course. She is involved in the CRASH course, which is a training and refresher program in the management of anaesthetic emergencies, and the PROMPT obstetric critical incident management course at the Mercy Hospital for Women. Dr. Newell is an active participant in the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetist's Continuing Medical Education Program.
