This one day course discusses crime prevention initiatives specific to neighborhoods and residential properties, from target hardening to developing resident based crime prevention programs. This is a proven crime prevention program designed to reduce crime, and the perception of crime, within rental apartment communities by law enforcement partnering with owners, landlords, property managers, and residents. This is a two day train-the-trainer certification course. This 3 day class is based on the premise that "the proper design and effective use of the built environment can lead to a reduction in the fear of crime and incidence of crime, and to an improvement in quality of life." CPTED examines the "why here" factor. Concepts learned can be applied to provide useful risk assessments and security surveys of existing properties as well as the development of new projects. Attendees will learn about how lighting, landscaping, access control, signage, and the use of social activities can help in preventing crime, as well as how to utilize CPTED in existing crime prevention and community policing programs. This unique fast paced course has quickly become a favorite among police officers and administrators nationwide. While designed for front-line law enforcement officers to do more than merely respond to crime in their communities, this one-day class is a must for anyone in law enforcement who strides to provide a more preventative, customer service based approach to policing. This course will examine the basics of preventing crime, why crime occurs where it does, and how to successfully engage citizens to partner in community crime prevention efforts. Security surveys, risk assessments and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) theories will also be examined. He is focused on delivering innovative and practical crime prevention courses for front-line law enforcement officers, as well as those assigned to crime prevention and community policing as their primary duty. His range of experience as a patrol officer, detective, and advanced crime prevention specialist enables him to integrate first-hand knowledge and experience to his training.
