Amanda Pearson

Amanda graduated from the University of Victoria in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She spent the next seven years working on the acute care Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation wards at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, both at the bedside and in the Clinical Nurse Leader role. Amanda has spent her entire nursing career working with joint replacement patients; she is excited to use this strong foundation to provide support and guidance to patients throughout their surgical journey

Connor Chan

Connor was born and raised in Victoria BC. He has always been involved in various sports and athletics growing up, which he believes burgeoned his interest to study and work with musculoskeletal injuries. He received his Bachelor of Science with Specialization in Kinesiology from Queen's University in 2023. Connor finds meeting and getting to know each patient's unique stories one of the most interesting parts of working here at Rebalance.

Cory Taves

Cory received a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Victoria and a Master's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Manitoba. He uses manual therapy and specific exercise prescription to decrease pain and restore function. A strong advocate of education, Cory's approach to therapy focuses on ensuring his patients understand the causes of and treatments for their dysfunction. Cory has a strong clinical interest in orthopaedic physiotherapy, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation and promoting an active lifestyle as a pillar of holistic health.

Cydney Quon

Cydney graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2023. She is originally from Saskatoon where she grew up competitively dancing. Experiencing injuries of her own made her passionate about working in orthopaedic rehabilitation. Since working at RebalanceMD she has continued to learn about different surgical and non-surgical interventions to improve patient functionality and quality of life. Cydney is certified in using the KneeKG system to objectively assess how the knee moves throughout a patient's gait cycle.

Dr. Bruce Pinel

Dr. Bruce Pinel (Ph.D., M.A., B.A., RCC) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors) and has a Ph.D. in Sport Psychology (professional member of the Canadian Sport Psychology Association). Bruce's work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor focuses primarily on health and injury management, career and workplace concerns, chronic injury, self-esteem, stress management, return to function / work / performance, sleep management, dealing with transition and changes to daily living and active lifestyles due to health or injury issues, and mental performance enhancement for sport / recreation / active living / work. In relation to sport performance enhancement, Bruce has worked in high-performance sport with elite athletes and teams at all levels, including professional, Olympic & Paralympic, National, Provincial, and local. He has been a member of Team Canada at the Olympics, Paralympics, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, and other major international sporting events.

Dr. Catherine O'Brien

Catherine received her Medical Degree from the University of Calgary and completed an Orthopaedics residency at the University of British Columbia. She then obtained additional sub-specialty Fellowship training in Sports Medicine/Arthroscopic Reconstruction of the Knee and Shoulder, and she also obtained her Diploma in Sport Medicine from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM). She followed this with a second year, focused on Orthopaedic Trauma. Since 2013, Catherine has worked in many locations around British Columbia, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories as a locum Orthopaedic Surgeon, before formally limiting her practice to non-operative orthopaedics in 2020. She holds a Clinical Instructor appointment with the University of British Columbia and is active in teaching clinical skills, as well as the fundamentals of scholarly inquiry. Catherine's current clinical interests include musculoskeletal health optimization through patient education and non-operative care. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, and CASEM. Highlights and achievements include the Dean's Silver Medal in Science in her undergraduate degree, four-time Academic All-Canadian as a varsity swimming athlete, the Resident Research Award for UBC in her graduating year, 20 years of representation on the National team for kayaking, and multiple sporting events coverage as a physician, including the Canada Winter Games, the Canadian Finals Rodeo, and the FIFA U20 Women's Soccer World Cup. Catherine remains active in sport, enjoying kayaking, swimming, cycling, cross country skiing, and hiking.

Dr. Larry Robinson

Dr. Larry Robinson recently served as Professor and Division Director of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto from 2014- 2024. He has also served as president of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Chief Examiner for the EMG examination offered by the Canadian Society for Clinical Neurophysiology. In 2017 he received the lifetime achievement award from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). Dr. Larry Robinson has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed literature, mostly focused on electrodiagnosis. His special interests include traumatic neuropathies, entrapment neuropathies, and using electrodiagnosis to guide surgical decision making. He is also credited with developing the Combined Sensory Index to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome, which is now known internationally as the Robinson index.

Eric Lowe

Eric completed both his Master of Physical Therapy and Bachelor of Kinesiology degrees at the University of British Columbia. Growing up heavily involved in sport, Eric has always been interested in human movement and performance. Believing in the value continuing education, Eric has taken a number of post-graduate courses including Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS), acupuncture (CAFCI), advanced manual therapy courses from the Canadian Orthopaedic Division and is working towards his Sport Physiotherapy designation. For the past 4 years, Eric has been the Physiotherapist of the UBC Men's Baseball team and previously was the Physiotherapist of the Canadian Men's Field Hockey team. Eric is committed to providing individualized, goal-oriented care, consisting primarily of manual therapy, exercise prescription and patient education. He has a special interest in sports injuries, lower extremity (Hip, Knee, Ankle) injuries, post-operative rehabilitation and shoulder & elbow rehabilitation of the overhead athlete. Eric works with patients of all ages and abilities, with a particular focus on youth athletes and baseball players.

Gail-Golden Fahey

Gail-Golden Fahey completed a Bachelor of Physical Therapy at the University of Manitoba. She's since worked in both hospital and private practice, allowing her to hone her skills in treating acute, subacute, and chronic injuries as well as pre and post-surgical conditions. Over the years Gail-Golden completed several manual therapy courses in management of musculoskeletal conditions including hip, knee and shoulder rehabilitation. She is also certified in Neurofunctional Acupuncture. Gail-Golden's passion for serving her patients, however, urges her to continue developing her skills and she's working toward certification in Functional Dry Needling.

Jana was born and raised in Germany and moved to Canada in 2014. In 2022, she graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Majoring in Kinesiology and Minoring in Psychology. Jana joined the RebalanceMD team in the summer of 2022. She is passionate about the many benefits of living an active lifestyle and enjoys seeing the progress patients make in returning to sports and their daily activities through active rehabilitation. Jana is KneeKG certified to obtain objective data to analyze knee movement throughout the gait cycle. In her free time, Jana loves being outdoors: mountain biking, skiing, playing golf or tennis.

Since graduation, she has worked primarily on the Orthopedic Rehabilitation Unit at the Royal Jubilee hospital, and utilizes her skills from the rehabilitation unit in her everyday encounters with patients to help aid in their journey to recovery.

Joy Coughlin

Joy Coughlin graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy in 1981. After completing the Canadian Physiotherapy Association examination, she began her practice in Edmonton providing in and out-patient care in hospital setting and private practice. She completed the Part A of the CPA Manual and Manipulative Therapy in 2000 and IMS certification in 2010. Joy moved to Victoria in 1992 focusing her work in private clinics, occupational rehabilitation and operated her own practice until 2015. She is very enthusiastic and dedicates her career to helping patients in different stages of recovery. She thrives to stay current with care delivery through continuing education. and believes in teamwork. Joy was involved with a variety of volunteer work devoting many years to swimming, baseball, skating and soccer leagues as a trainer.

Mikayla Ogrodniczuk

Mikayla is from Vancouver, BC where she completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology in Health Sciences and her Master of Physical Therapy at UBC. While at UBC, she was a five-year member and two-year Assistant Captain with the UBC Women's Hockey team. While completing her Master of Physical Therapy, Mikayla also competed for and Co-Captained the UBC Cycling team. She made the move to Vancouver Island following graduation, having falled in love with the city of Victoria while on clinical placement during her Physical Therapy degree. Mikayla is passionate about helping people move better, feel strong, and thrive. She is eager to collaborate with her clients to develop treatment plans that help them achieve their functional and performance goals. Mikayla has a special interest in working with athletes. She knows what it takes to keep one's body in peak shape while competing as an elite athlete and draws from her experiences to personalize each athlete's treatment, whether your goal is recovering from injury or optimizing performance. Patricia Roney

Patricia is a bilingual (French/English) manual physiotherapist with a special interest in orthopedic care and sports injury prevention and rehabilitation. Patricia has been actively involved in High Performance Sport as a National Team Therapist in the sport of Track and Field since 2013. As a team therapist, she has worked at multiple World Championships and International competitions. She worked as the medical lead for the Canadian Para-Athletics team, leading the therapy team at the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games.

Paula Sanglap Bono

Since leaving nursing school, Paula has worked in the acute care orthopaedic and post-operative rehabilitation settings in hospital. She also engaged the Clinical Nurse Leader role for both of these inpatient wards. Most recently, Paula worked as a Nursing Officer for Corrections Canada. From this she gained much interest in the relationship between chronic disease processes, mental health and chronic pain issues. Paula utilizes her experience in all these areas to help patients achieve the best outcome for their total knee or hip replacements.

Quinn Baak

Originally moving to Victoria from Kelowna, BC to pursue rugby, Quinn landed at One Bracing in September 2023. He originally joined the field of orthoses and bracing working as an orthotic tech and custom ski boot fitter during his kinesiology undergrad. Quinn has deep roots to both the skiing and rugby communities and loves to lend knowledge to athletes looking to use biomechanics to improve their performance. Since his undergrad, Quinn has chosen to pursue a career as a pedorthist to do his part in keeping his patients active and moving.

She has her Level 1 Certification through the Canadian Orthopedic Division, and coauthored a paper on paraplegic rowing for submission to the Journal of Sport Sciences. Renee is a new graduate who is keen on evidence-based practice. She is committed to fostering an active and collaborative approach to rehabilitation. Tailoring her treatments to address the specific needs and goals of her clients, Renee understands that each individual is unique. She uses manual and exercise therapy to guide her clients on their path to recovery and physical wellbeing.
