Dr. Brené Brown

Job Titles:
  • Researcher
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work in 2007 from Idaho State University. Upon graduation I was employed as a Psycho-Social Rehabilitation (PSR) worker. I greatly enjoyed assisting individuals and families in building better lives and reaching their personal goals. Over time, I realized I wanted to return to college and obtain my Master's Degree. I returned and subsequently received my Master's Degree in Social Work from Northwest Nazarene University in 2012. I completed further supervision and testing to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in 2015. Initially specializing in Co-Occurring disorders, I worked with individuals that struggled with mental health and addiction. As I worked with these great people, I became deeply aware that many of my clients had underlying and unresolved trauma and so I began to increase my knowledge in trauma treatment. I am passionate about trauma-informed therapy and see daily the benefits it brings to my clients. I am trained in various disciples including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Recent Trauma Episode Processing (R-TEP), Group Trauma Processing (G-TEP), Trauma Focused and Traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Play Therapy, and Art Processing Therapy. Mostly I am inspired by and use the work of author and researcher Dr. Brené Brown as I work with clients. One of my great joys is facilitating group and individual sessions based on Dr. Brown's work. I am thrilled when I have the opportunity to help individuals and families heal shame and increase authenticity and resilience. Everyone experiences shame. [KJ1] Extensive and interesting research has revealed the antidote for shame is courage, compassion, and connection.

I have worked in Mental Health for 25 years. After being diagnosed at 16 with Major Depression and Anxiety and later at 28 with PTSD; I decided I wanted to work with others to help them not feel like I was feeling. Over the years I learned some positive ways to cope with the symptoms of my illness. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that I was able to apply those skills and I began to recover from my illnesses. I have worked with children, adolescents and now adults. Thanks to RHS, I have found my path to really making a difference in other's lives. Being a Certified Peer Support Specialist has made it so I can truly stand beside someone as they take their own journey through recovery; because recovery isn't just returning back to "normal". It isn't even being someone without a mental illness or trauma either. It's being able to get up every day and do things you never thought you would be able to. It's healing to the point where the past no longer holds you. It's having enough control over your life that you can feel really, genuinely peaceful, even after everything you've been through! And recovery is an ongoing process. You have to work on every day; sometimes a lot and sometimes a little. But you have to make a conscious decision to work on you for you and not for someone else. Over the last year, I have been able to apply other skills I have learned.. Recently I was given this opportunity as an Administrative Assistant and become a part of the Marketing Team.

Although a native Idahoan, it took moving around the country for nearly a decade before Zack really discovered his love for the East Idaho community. After earning his BS degrees at Utah State University in both Business Marketing & Human Movement Science, Zack moved back to his hometown of Idaho Falls. There he began working in the school district he grew up in; supporting children in Special Education to develop behavioral regulation skills. Inspired by this work- and coupled with the years he spent working alongside adults with learning disabilities at North Eastern Services in Utah- Zack developed a deep passion for the field of mental health. It was this fervor for helping others with their mental wellness that eventually brought Zack to work as a case manager at Rise Up: Teen & Child Crisis Center of East Idaho. Shortly after starting his work as a CM, Zack also began working as the Marketing Lead for both Rise Up and Rehabilitative Health Services . According to Zack, "the opportunity to support the kids of our region through their crises, as well as getting to network with other providers & local businesses in our community, is a dream-job come true; I love what I do!"
