Dr. Brian S. Phelps

Dr. Brian S. Phelps is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He grew up near Amarillo, Texas and came to love Oklahoma City during his many visits as a child. He was the first to graduate from college in his family. Dr. Phelps attended Texas Tech University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He is the recipient of eleven academic scholarships. He has published and performed scientific research at Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, the United States Department of Agriculture, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Phelps received his M.D. with distinction from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston where he was awarded the Hitoshi Nikaidoh scholarship for humanism in medicine. He developed a passion for the surgical management of retinal disease during his residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. His residency vitreoretinal surgical training volume placed him in the top 1 percentile for graduating U.S. residents. Dr. Phelps was selected for a highly competitive 2 year vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He gained extensive training in the management of complex retinal disease by providing medical and surgical vitreoretinal services to the largest ophthalmology residency program in the country. Dr. Phelps is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He actively pursues his research interests as an investigator in national clinical trials on-going at RVC. He offers a wide range of medical and surgical retinal services including the most current intraocular pharmacotherapy and small gauge sutureless vitrectomy. Dr. Phelps enjoys sports and activities with his wife and two sons. He also enjoys running, fishing, camping, and most outdoor activities. Dr. Phelps is devoted in his work to restore and preserve vision for his patients and is excited to serve the people of Oklahoma. He is accepting new patients in our Edmond, Midwest City, and Norman offices.

Dr. Michael Hood

Dr. Michael Hood is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He spent his childhood years in Oklahoma City and attended Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School. Later, he received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology Biomedical Sciences from the University of Oklahoma. During this time, he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, was named an Outstanding Zoology Senior, and graduated with special distinction.

Dr. Ryan Ridges

Ryan Ridges, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal disease specialist. He studied electrical engineering on a President's Scholarship at the University of Utah and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi honor society. He followed his fascination with vision and optical technology into ophthalmology after graduating with distinction from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, serving as chief resident and conducting award-winning research that developed new technology to help diagnose eye movement disorders. Later, while at the Boston Foundation for Sight, he served on the active staff at Harvard's Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, taught students, residents, and fellows, engineered new optical technology, and treated complex corneal disease in patients referred from all over the world. His interest in retina then led him to complete a fellowship at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, where he held a faculty appointment as Instructor in Ophthalmology and was privileged to study with world-renowned innovators and experts in retinal disease. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society, and has presented research internationally, published on multiple subjects in peer-reviewed journals, and served as a reviewer for medical journals. Dr. Ridges enjoys hiking, mountain biking, writing and playing music for piano and pipe organ, software design and programming, and spending time with his family. Dr. Ridges will be accepting new patients in the Moore/Norman, Midwest City, and Lawton areas starting October 1, 2015.

Dr. Sandeep N. Shah

Dr. Sandeep N. Shah is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. He grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Putnam City High School. His undergraduate education was at Oklahoma City University where he was a double major with a Bachelors in Science in Computer Software Engineering and Biological Sciences. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and was university Valedictorian earning the Letzeiser gold medal. He attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma and received an M.D. with distinction and selected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society as a junior. During that time, he dedicated a considerable time to basic science research in molecular genetics particularly on Ferritin (a protein that stores iron in cells) at the biochemistry department at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. He pursued residency training at the renowned Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, where he was selected by faculty to serve as a chief resident in his final year. At the Infirmary, Dr. Shah began developing an appreciation for the complexities of medical and surgical retinal disease. He was fascinated by the challenges of this subspecialty and was inspired by his mentors. He received extensive experience in management of complex eye trauma at the Infirmary which was the designated eye trauma center in Chicago. He has a particular interest and received training in uveitis (auto-immune disease and inflammation of the eye). As a resident, he designed and carried out a randomized clinical trial for diabetic eye disease.. Dr. Shah was selected for a prestigious vitreoretinal fellowship at the The Eye Institute at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and served as a clinical instructor in ophthalmology teaching residents and medical students. In this fellowship, besides managing complex medical and surgical retinal conditions, he gained understanding in the management and treatment of ocular melanoma with plaque radiotherapy. Dr. Shah has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals, authored book chapters, and currently serves as principal investigator in multiple national clinical research trials. He has presented his research at the Association of Research and Vision in Ophthalmology and American Society of Retina Specialists. He has also served as a reviewer for the journals Archives of Ophthalmology and Retina. After clinical fellowship, Dr. Shah returned home to Oklahoma City to start a private practice. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His particular clinical interests are the management of complex retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease, and clinical trials. He sees patients in Edmond, Midwest City, Norman, and Elk City. Dr. Shah enjoys his time off with his family. He is happily married and has two beautiful daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, gardening, and nature. He is also a Koi fish and pond enthusiast. Dr. Shah's sees patients in offices at Edmond, Midwest City, Norman, and Elk City. Dr. Shah primarily operates at Oklahoma Surgicare and Summit Medical Center. He also has staff privileges at Integris Baptist Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, and St. Anthony Hospital.
