Although we'd logged plenty of sea miles both individually and as a family, we knew that we would face many new challenges not least of which was maintaining harmony during a trip that was far more adventurous than anything we'd done before. We wanted to do all we could to ensure that the trip wasn't just about the sailing but was an opportunity to get to know Britain (at least those parts near the coast) a little better while giving the girls a holiday that they would remember for all the right reasons. We'd therefore do all we could to break the trip into passages of reasonable length and duration, taking as much time off ashore as we felt able.
