Thermography or thermology is the medical science that uses infra-red to produce thermal images of the body's surface. Thermology is completely non-invasive and involves no form of energy imparted onto or into the body. A thermogram is a temperature map of the body in a rainbow colour display. While the human hand can detect temperature differences of around 2°C, a thermography camera is 40 times more sensitive (accurate to 0.05°C). It takes over 70,000 individual temperature readings in each thermogram. Subtle changes in skin temperature can reflect underlying pathology.
