Douglass "Chuck" Smith

Chuck began his career in the structured settlement industry in 1985 with The Structured Settlements Company. Chuck and Steve Black co-founded Black, Holcomb, Smith & Associates, Inc. as a separate corporation in 1995. Chuck has handled structured settlements involving medical malpractice cases, trucker liability, auto liability, general liability, aviation liability, and workers' compensation. Prior to 1985, Chuck served as a claims manager for an HMO company based in Miami. He also served as a claims manager for over fourteen years, in various cities, for The Hartford Insurance Company, handling, supervising and managing all types of insurance claims and lawsuits. Chuck is a member of the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA), and has been a structured settlement and negotiations educational and guest speaker for claims associations, defense and plaintiff attorney firms, insurance companies, and self-insured entities.

Matthew Carson

Matt began his career in the structured settlement industry in 1998, where he joined Black, Holcomb, Smith & Associates' staff at its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. His extensive computer knowledge was essential in developing and maintaining the database our company uses to this day, as well as additional tools developed to streamline our business.

Stephen M. Black

Steve's structured settlement career spans over 30 years in assisting participants in the settlement process. Steve began his settlement career by joining The Structured Settlements Company, opening their Boston office in 1984, and was a founding member of Black, Holcomb, Smith & Associates, Inc. in 1995. Steve has participated in settlement negotiations and provides structured settlement services, specializing in medical malpractice, general liability, aviation liability, and workers' compensation. Steve has extensive experience in claims management, serving as Assistant Secretary at Cameron & Colby Company, handling excess and surplus lines claims, preceded by his years as a Claims Supervisor for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company of Boston. Steve is a member of the National Structured Settlements Trade Association (NSSTA), and has been a structured settlement and negotiations educational and guest speaker for various claims organizations, defense and plaintiff attorney firms, insurance companies, and self-insured entities.
