CAREY GALL

Dr Gall commenced consultant practice in February 2006 as a partner of Hobart Colorectal Surgeons. Carey lives in Sandy Bay with his wife and son. His interests include food and wine, boating, travel and world affairs... Dr Gall performs 80% of bowel operations laparoscopically. This is a minimal access or keyhole operation where most of the surgery is performed with long instruments and a camera inserted through tiny trocars placed through the abdomen. The bowel is then removed via a short incision (usually 7cm / 3 inches). Until recently, most colorectal operations were performed as open surgery through long abdominal incisions of up to 35cm (14 inches). Patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery have less pain and a quicker recovery time and can generally leave hospital earlier if they wish.
