CATCHING H2O - Key Persons

Amy was introduced to Permaculture through Brook's water harvesting workshop in 2012. She completed her Permaculture Design Course through the San Diego Sustainable Living Institute that same year. She is passionate about living in harmony with nature and each other. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University with B.S. in Business Administration major in accounting. With a 30-year career in accounting under her belt, she knows how to tend to the details. Amy lives in Valley Center, CA with her husband, dog, cat, chickens, goats, and all the wildlife. She feels the most alive and centered when practicing yoga, meditation, gardening, and spending time in nature.

Atulya loves the great outdoors and this beautiful planet. He sees water conservation as a high priority in southern California and on the entire planet. He completed his Permaculture Design Course through the San Diego Sustainable Living Institute in 2017 and decided to join our team to put this new knowledge to work. You can't drag him away from an Ultimate Frisbee game or an excellent acoustic concert. He and Teekhnata (his wife) are always up for some delicious fruit!

Brook is a member of SDIRWM Regional Advisory Committee and a member of the Underrepresented Community Outreach Workgroup. In her role she strives to better understand water policy in the region and speak up with other climate initiatives for localizing our water infrastructure and using the most ecological lens to analyze projects that the IRWM is funding. Brook is co-owner and CEO of CatchingH2O. Her engineering background perfectly complements the permaculture design framework she uses to approach design problems. She graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from University of the Pacific in Stockton, California in 2001. She received her Permaculture Certificate in 2008 from ECOSA Institute in Prescott, Arizona. Brook also completed the Watershed Management Group Water Harvesting Certification Course as well as a Watershed Restoration Course with Craig Sponholtz. Brook received the Water Warrior Award from the Surfrider Foundation in 2011 for her on the ground work in water conservation. Brook lives in Valley Center, California in a Straw Bale home with her partner, two sons, daughter and cat.

Claire is a horticulturist who works in Southern California and Baja California. After several years working as a Culinary Garden Manager for an award winning restaurant in Baja California, Claire teamed up briefly with Catching H2O in 2018 to learn more about rainwater harvesting techniques. She was inspired to complete the Watershed Management Group Water Harvesting Certification Course. She holds a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior & Evolution from UC San Diego; and a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Farming Systems at UC Santa Cruz. In addition to her work with Catching H2O, she teaches courses on California native plant maintenance with the Theodore Payne Foundation and installs rainwater harvesting gardens that utilize native plants. In Baja, she collaborates with different community groups to offer workshops and talks on the importance of rainwater harvesting. When she's not doing any of that she enjoys plunking around the garden, boogie boarding tiny waves, and nature walks.

Philip's familiarity with gardening and his work ethic are a huge asset to our worksites. As a homeowner he has extensive experience with plants and garden design with an eye for maximizing small spaces in our urban environment. He has augmented his experience by being a core volunteer at the San Diego Peace Garden in City Heights and recently teamed up with a three other farmers to start a farm in Chula Vista called Agua Dulce that offers weekly CSA boxes to San Diego. Three years ago, he founded Harvesting San Diego, a program of the San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project, that helps local homeowners harvest and distribute their excess fruit to local food banks and aid agencies. He also enjoys beekeeping and raising backyard chickens. In a former life, he competed for the US Track & Field Team at the 2000, 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games, won numerous national championships and traveled the world

Rosalind Haselbeck is the founder, co-owner and president of Catching H₂O. She has been working on climate advocacy since 2005 when she began volunteer work in the open space canyons and became interested in storm water mitigation and carbon sequestration. Her background is in Biology - she received her PhD from the University of California, Irvine in 1992 and then taught Biology at the University of San Diego, where her teaching on environmental topics ultimately inspired her to form her first company, Building Green Futures, in 2007. Rosalind is an ARCSA (American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association) accredited professional, a green roof accredited professional, an accredited member of the G3 Gardens group, and a level 2 installer with Greywater Action. Since 2017 she has been co-owning and running Catching H2O with her long-time colleague and friend Brook Sarson of H2O-ME. When Rosalind isn't working, she is blogging for Dwelling on Carbon, at the dojo pursuing her aikido training (recently promoted to black belt), or out on her bicycle exploring local canyons and watersheds, and doing bicycle fundraisers for climate awareness for Climate Ride.
