A.J. Mercer

As Senior Financial Analyst at Capital Growth Buchalter, A.J. is responsible for a broad range of finance and accounting duties across the firm's acquisitions, developments, and dispositions. These duties include financial modeling and analysis, developing and maintaining relationships with banks and financial institutions, and working with internal and external parties throughout the transaction process. A.J. holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration, as well as a Master of Accountancy, both from the University of Alabama, and is a Certified Public Accountant. A.J. began his career with Ernst & Young in Atlanta, GA before moving to Birmingham, AL where he joined the firm RSM. He worked in the audit practice at both firms, specializing in audits of publicly traded REITs and private real estate investment funds. After leaving public accounting, A.J. spent time as the Controller and then Director of Finance at a real estate development firm in Birmingham, AL. In 2022, A.J. was named a NextGenBHM Accounting honoree by the Birmingham Business Journal. A.J. enjoys volunteering in the community, and currently serves as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Coosa Riverkeeper, a waterkeeper organization that promotes, protects, and restores the Coosa River in Central Alabama. He has previously served on the Board of Directors for the Rotaract Club of Birmingham and as Chairman for The University of Alabama Ducks Unlimited Chapter.

Alvin Hood

Alvin serves as the Director of Construction, Eastern Region, for Capital Growth Buchalter. In this position, he coordinates all aspects of construction management within a wide variety of project types. Alvin brings extensive experience in planning, budgeting, procurement, and construction management in retail construction across a national geographic territory. Working primarily in build-to-suit retail programs, Alvin ensures CGB projects are completed on schedule and to each client's unique specifications. He is equally adept at using value and constructability analysis, working within aggressive bidding environments, and providing efficient project delivery systems. Prior to joining CGB, Alvin held various construction roles with national and regional brands such as Raising Canes, Applebee's, Davita, Firebirds Wood Fired Grill, La Tagliatella Restaurants, Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Kroger, and BI-LO/Bruno's Supermarkets. Alvin earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston. In his free time, he enjoys home remodeling projects, wood working, planting a vegetable garden, and spending time with his family.

Anna Rice

Prior to joining CGB in 2022, Anna was in property management for seven years effectively managing residential, office, industrial, and retail properties. Chad Post - Chief Legal Officer, COO

Chad is the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel of CGB and its affiliated companies. In this role, he is integrally involved in the acquisition, development, redevelopment, and disposition of all company assets and the steering of all partnership structures. Prior to joining CGB, Chad was an equity shareholder at the law firm of Baker Donelson. As part of his practice, he represented publicly traded and privately held developers in connection with the purchase, financing, mezzanine financing, sale and leasing of commercial real estate. He had an emphasis on retail, medical, condominium and senior living properties and represented special servicers, banks and financial institutions in the creative restructuring and disposition of problem loans. In addition to representation of real estate clients, he served as outside counsel to a Fortune 100 financial services company and a Fortune 200 technology company. Chad is also rated as AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell. Born in Pensacola, Florida, Chad attended Birmingham-Southern College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics. He obtained his law degree from Emory University School of Law. As an undergrad, Chad was an All-American baseball player and in 2007, was inducted into the Birmingham-Southern College Athletic Hall of Fame. He still ranks in the all-time top 5 in several categories for career and single season records.

Christian Damico

Christian graduated with double bachelor's degrees in economics and philosophy, with a minor in public policy, from Hobart College. He is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and a licensed real estate salesperson in the state of New York and New Jersey. Christian is bilingual and fluent in Spanish. In his free time, he volunteers as a basketball coach and enjoys biking, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Danielle Yance

Danielle puts her organizational and communication skills to good use as she facilities and oversees contract critical dates and closing timelines for Capital Growth Buchalter's commercial real estate properties. In this role, she assists in administering the legal portion of the closing process for acquisitions and dispositions by coordinating with the lender's counsel, the CGB accounting and finance team, and title companies. Prior to joining the firm, Danielle worked as outside counsel for CGB on their acquisitions and dispositions and in the telecommunications industry assisting large telecommunications companies with their real estate and leasing needs. She earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science from Auburn University and her law degree from Birmingham School of Law in 2015. Danielle met her husband at Auburn University, and they currently live outside Birmingham with their two children and three dogs. In her spare time, Danielle coaches gymnastics and cheerleading, enjoys spending time with her family, and watching her children participate in community sports.

Eric Buchalter

Fluent in both spoken and written Spanish, Eric is a member of AJC ACCESS Atlanta, which works to bridge relations among Jewish, Black, and Hispanic communities. In his free time, Eric enjoys practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, doing yoga, and playing golf. Eric is a Managing Principal in Georgia with Capital Growth Buchalter. He works to develop and maintain relationships with retail, healthcare, educational and residential organizations across the country. Garrett Hicks

Garrett Hicks serves Capital Growth Buchalter in the role of Leasing & Development Associate, working out of the Charlotte office. His responsibilities include handling commercial leasing in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, assisting with acquisition of client properties for the preferred development program, and real estate site selection and analysis for the Charlotte office. Prior to joining CGB, he worked for Bell Commercial as a real estate site analyst and completed an internship with Foundry Commercial in Raleigh/ Durham. Garret holds a real estate broker license in North Carolina and a salesperson license in South Carolina. Garrett graduated with a B.B.A. in Economics with a minor in finance from the University of Mississippi. Before transferring to the University of Mississippi, he played football as a linebacker for Wofford College. When he's not in the office, Garrett connects with his community by volunteering with Spare Some for Autism. He also can be found in the gym power lifting with his fiancée Theresa or enjoying the outdoors hunting and fishing. Garrett is currently an instrument-rated pilot, working towards his commercial pilot license.

Gina Jones

Serving as the Senior Engineering Designer, Gina provides preliminary site layout, civil plans and site calculations. With a degree in Drafting and Design Technology, and 28 years in her field, problem-solving is Gina's forte. Her innate curiosity about how things are built makes seeing a design, from drawing to finished project very rewarding for her and the team at Capital Growth Buchalter. Her daughter is her biggest passion. Gina is also so passionate about animals that she would open an animal shelter, even if she didn't get paid to do it.

Greg Craft

Greg Craft oversees and is responsible for the growth of the company's brokerage services as well as developing new client relationships for Capital Growth Buchalter. Having specialized in tenant and landlord representation as well as new store development for various national and regional restaurant and retail brands, Greg has more than 30 years experience in the real estate industry. During his time in the business, he has served as Senior Vice President of The Trilogy Group, LLC as well as Real Estate Manager for major corporations including Ashland Oil/Super America, Boston Market, Payless ShoeSource and Donato's Pizzeria Corp ( a wholly-owned subsidiary of The McDonalds Corporation). During his time at The Trilogy Group, Greg and a partner formed a small development company known as Founders Development and together, they have developed a vast array of restaurant and retail projects for companies such as Family Dollar, Sherwin Williams, Hardee's Corporation, Mattress Firm, Wilshire Bank, Dollar Tree, and a variety of other concepts. Specializing in land acquisition, land development and market analysis, Greg has represented a number of national and regional clients including Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, The Krystal Company, Panda Express, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Starbucks, Einstein Brothers Bagels, Mattress Firm, Wilshire Bank, Advance Auto Parts, Raising Cane's, Hardee's, Del Taco, Rita's Water Ice, Donato's Pizza and Knockouts Haircuts for Men. Jason Garcille - President

Jason serves as president of the development and construction division, providing leadership and oversight for CGB's commercial real estate development program including site acquisition, budgeting, entitlement and construction activities. Jason is also a licensed General Contractor in multiple states and a member of the United States Green Building Council. Jason has served on the Board of Directors for Families Helping Families of SWLA. He is an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and has coached baseball, football and basketball in various youth organizations. Jason received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and management from Louisiana State University. When he's not working, Jason enjoys spending time with his three children, Jack, Emily and Louis, and his wife, Jennifer. Jason is also a private pilot and avid outdoorsman.

Jeffrey M. Lewin

Jeffrey is a development officer for Capital Growth Buchalter, managing real estate entitlement and development for targeted client accounts within the CGB portfolio. He is also an award-winning registered architect and licensed general contractor in four states with more than three decades of experience. Before joining CGB, Jeffrey held leadership positions in which he identified opportunities and managed development and construction of large-scale commercial and residential projects nationwide. His expertise also includes the development of retail lifestyle shopping centers, public and private golf courses, and high-end custom homes. Jeffrey earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Philadelphia College of Art and a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute. He lives in Delray Beach, Florida, where he enjoys sailing and training with the American Sailing Association.

Jenna S. Stephens

Jenna gives back to her community through her involvement with her church and as an active member of the PTO at her children's school. When she's not minding legal matters for CGB, Jenna treasures spending time with her husband and twin daughters supporting the girls' horseback riding endeavors, enjoying various outdoor activities and reading.

Jerry D. Phillips - CFO

As chief financial officer, Jerry is responsible for providing strategic management of the company's finance and accounting functions, making high-level decisions about overall policy and strategy as well as identifying and managing financial risks and opportunities. He also keeps a close eye on the day-to-day operations of the finance department while tending to ongoing relationship management with financial institutions. Jerry brings over 25 years of experience in corporate tax planning and strategic financial management to his role as chief financial officer. This experience provides a solid foundation to achieve his goal of establishing best-practice policies and practices and implementing tools that ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization with strong fiscal management, project management, cross-team communications, and workflow. Jerry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Business Administration, as well as a Master of Tax Accounting, both from the University of Alabama. Over the years, Jerry has served his community on the boards of Warner Foundation and the Tuscaloosa YMCA. He has also served as Treasurer for a local cub scout pack, and as president of the Tuscaloosa chapter of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants. John Cavin

Prior to joining the CGB team, John served with CBRE (Coldwell Banker Richard Ellis), The Shopping Center Group and Prudential CRES. Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, John grew up in several cities across the South. Inspired by his family's business ventures, owning several apartment complexes in Jacksonville, Florida, John decided to study real estate and finance, earning his bachelor's degree in real estate finance at Florida State University. In his free time, John enjoys volunteer coaching with a basketball program for at-risk youth. He also loves playing golf and spending time with his family.

Josh Deason

Josh's background includes 12 years in the accounting field, with seven years' experience in real estate and construction. Josh attended San Jacinto college and holds an associates degree from Jefferson State. He lives in Pelham, AL with his 5-year-old daughter and spends his free time playing golf, going to the lake, listening to live music, and enjoying anything outdoors. Josh and his family give back to the community each year by building homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Kathie Buchalter Carnes

A commitment to serving others is just one of the reasons Kathie got involved in real estate, inspired by her father, who started the business over 30 years ago. A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she is a member of the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce, and Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce. Kathie takes pride in her work as a leader in the community, and serves as a board member for several organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Success By 6, and Temporary Emergency Services. She is also a member of the Mayor's Advisory Committee. Additionally, Kathie volunteers her time with the University of Alabama Brewer-Porch Children's Center, DRISTI for Autism, Community Kitchens in Birmingham, and the American Red Cross. Kathie received her bachelor's degree in social work and a master's degree in special education from the University of Alabama. Kirk Farrelly

He is a registered Professional Engineer in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas. Kirk holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Louisiana State University. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and active member of St. Francis Xavier Church. Outside of work, Kirk enjoys spending time with his wife and young son and doing anything in the great outdoors.

Laura Faulkner

Laura joins us at Capital Growth Buchalter as the Tax Director. Laura is responsible for overseeing all income tax compliance, reporting, and planning strategies for the company. Laura began her career in public accounting as an intern with Kassouf & Company in 2005. At the completion of the internship, she was then offered a full time position with the firm that she held for six years. Next, she joined Harbert Management Corporation in 2011 as a tax accountant and was promoted to tax manager in 2018. During her tenure at HMC, the tax department successfully transitioned from being solely compliance-focused to becoming a value-add function that supported the investment and marketing teams. Laura holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Birmingham-Southern College, graduating magna cum laude in 2005. She is also a Certified Public Accountant. She is involved in her community as a sustaining member of the Junior League of Birmingham. Laura lives in the Bluff Park area with her two corgis - Poppy & Larry. When she's not working, she loves working out at Burn Boot Camp, and enjoys traveling with friends.

Libby Pilgrim

Serving as Transaction Paralegal for Capital Growth Buchalter, Libby assists and provides support to the legal and finance departments with duties that include a multitude of tasks relating to land and property acquisitions as well as sales and contract procedures. Her facilitation of legal documents, the processing of loan documents and closing documents from beginning to the conclusion, is key to her role. Maintaining multiple spreadsheets of legal documents regarding acquisitions and sales, entities formed and terminated and tracking sale and closing dates along with researching and terminating closed deals is also a pertinent part of Libby's duties. With over 15 years in the legal field, it is Libby's dedicated work ethic, strong communication skills and her persistence that make her a strong professional in this role. She earned her bachelor's degree from Auburn University. Libby gives back to her community through her involvement with Young Life and as President of the PTO at her child's school. Outside of work, Libby enjoys spending time with her son and daughter supporting their interest whether it be at the softball field or watching Show Choir.

Maria Wilmas

Mark Bush

Mark manages outside consultants including architects, engineers, and geotechnical and environmental firms in the procurement of reports, construction plans, and permits for new real estate projects. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Mark has traveled extensively across the country during his commercial real estate career. He volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and recently helped build a house for a veteran. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and traveling with his wife.

Maxine Nichols

Maxine joins the company with 25 years of experience in accounting and management experience, 15 years of experience in process management, including total quality management with continuous process improvement, and 12 years' experience in information systems management. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama in accounting with a concentration on cost accounting, graduating cum laude. As the eighth of nine children to parents who raised their children to believe in the value of a good sense of humor, a strong work ethic, and even stronger faith, Maxine says that this combination is the secret to her success and will continue to serve her in her role at Capital Growth Buchalter.

Michael DeJohn

Michael leverages his keen ability as a communicator and a team player in his role in acquisitions and development with Capital Growth Buchalter. A proud member of the firm since graduating from the University of Alabama, Michael plans and develops project sites and land acquisitions for various clients such as Dollar General and scouts regions for new development projects. Working hard for his clients is part of Michael's mindset, stemming back from his days as a linebacker for the University of Alabama, where he was a part of the winning Alabama Crimson Tide football team in the 2009 National Championship. Michael holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama. Michael actively gives back to his community, fundraising for the Alabama Chapter of the March of Dimes. When he's not working, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife Michelle and being outdoors.

Palmer Haynes

Rob Hicks

Rob is a seasoned commercial real estate developer with over 30 years of experience in site acquisition, leasing and development to include build to suit construction. His expertise is in client base programmatic expansion for national industry leaders such as Starbucks, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Outback, Verizon, and Wawa as well as many others. Prior to joining Capital Growth Buchalter, Rob developed projects under American Retail Developer and PH Developers LLC as a founding partner and owner. He successfully developed more than 50 retail centers in the southeast over the last 10 years. Born in Norfolk, Virginia in a navy family, Rob graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree while playing on the varsity football team at JMU. In 1999, Rob received his Master of Business Administration from Embry Riddle University as well as a commercial pilot certification. Rob resides in Raleigh NC with his family.

A focus on high-quality service and a strong commitment to giving back have earned Robert much respect in the business community. He is currently involved in numerous civic and philanthropic activities including serving on the Athletics Sports Foundation Board for the University of Alabama - Birmingham. Previously, Robert served in leadership roles with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), NAHB Commercial Builders Council, Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa, Home Builders Association of Alabama, Alabama Builders Political Action Committee, Stillman College President's Advisory Committee, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, March of Dimes, and Boy Scouts of West Alabama.
