On February 23, 2014, the British Columbia Association of Optometrists named Dr. M.K. Randhawa, its 2014 Optometrist of the Year! Background Dr. M.K. Randhawa, Optometrist, was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and continues to live in Vancouver with her husband and two young children. Her clinic is located in the Killarney neighbourhood of East Vancouver. When she is not spending time with her family and taking care of her patients, she enjoys cooking - her macaroni and lasagna are famous! Education - Human Nutrition & Doctor of Optometry Dr. Randhawa's education gives her a unique perspective in eye an vision health care. She has a degree in human nutrition from the University of British Columbia and a doctorate in optometry degree from Pacific University. Dr. Randhawa's education makes her uniquely qualified to advise patients on the impact of nutrition on their eye health and over all health. Nutrition plays a key role in the prevention and management of eye diseases like dry eye syndrome, macular degeneration and myopia. Dr. Randhawa is a developmental optometrist and a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. She has undertaken a residency in vision therapy and advanced training in vision therapy and developmental vision. As a developmental optometrist, she is qualified to to diagnose and treat developmental vision problems such as amblyopia, strabismus, binocular vision dysfunctions, convergence insufficiency, depth perception problems, visual information processing deficits. She also conducts rehabilitation for vision problems resulting from head and brain injuries..
