GILBERT MURRAY TRUST

The GILBERT MURRAY TRUST was founded in 1956 by subscriptions from a large number of people who felt that their lives and those of others had been affected for good by Gilbert Murray's long life of activity and scholarship in the fields of Classical Studies and International Affairs... GILBERT MURRAY was Regius Professor of Greek at Oxford from 1908 until 1936. As well as a distinguished classical scholar, he was an original and active member of the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in 1942, which later became Oxfam. He was deeply affected by the First World War, and after it he became one of the leading figures in promoting world peace through the League of Nations.
