Kinghorn Insurance Agency began operation in 1898 as a small operation in the back of a hardware store in Beaufort, SC. Beaufort remained its sole location until 1973 when it opened a second location on Palmetto Bay Road on Hilton Head Island. In 1977 the office manager retired and James L (Jimmy) Rowe took over. Rowe had formerly been a vice president and managed the Bankers Trust office..
