I am an enthusiastic, bubbly and creative artist and I have specialised in cut work textile art. I often derive inspiration from the natural world around me but for my third year at Hereford College of Arts my love of cut work has come from lace. Lace is a fabric which is elegant, delicate and beautiful; it is a fabric which is the human imitation of nature and I want my work to show the beauty and elegance that cut work can create; the shadows that are cast, how colour can impact on the paper ‘lace' and how natural it can look... I create my pieces by first drawing from life or my own photographs, at the beginning of the project I wanted to only use creams and whites, however as the project grew I felt that the natural colours of flowers and leaves could create a depth and originality to my work. I start by drawing my image and I will then cut into around my drawings creating a lacy and delicate paper cut which is then reversed so that it stays clean and white. When I started to..
