Daniel Copeland

Dr. Copeland was born in Irving, Texas, but soon moved with his family west at the age of nine. He attended Coronado High School in Lubbock where he was competitive in tennis. He went on to a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree at Texas Tech University, and he attended medical school from 2001-2005 at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed general surgery training over the next six years at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. This included a year of research, which led to multiple scholarly publications and research presentations at the national level. Dr. Copeland was also given the Robert M. Bransford Award for Outstanding Chief Resident in Surgery in 2011. He spent the next two years completing his Vascular and Endovascular training in Little Rock as well, joining Midland Surgical Associates in July 2013 after his training was complete. He is currently board certified in General Surgery and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He currently has admitting privileges to Midland Memorial Hospital, as well as Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Dr. Copeland also holds a position as Clinical Assistant Professor with Texas Tech, helping teach medical students and general surgical residents. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as active in the Permian Basin Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Society for Vascular Surgery, and the Texas Surgical Society. His areas of interest in surgery include all aspects of Vascular and Endovascular surgery including Aortic Aneurysms, Peripheral Arterial Disease, and Varicose Veins and Venous Insufficiency. He also has interests in advanced laparoscopic surgery including foregut surgery (Nissen fundoplication) and colon surgery. He is proficient in robotic surgery, incorporating robotic foregut and colon surgery, cholecystectomy, as well as robotic inguinal and ventral hernia repair into his practice. He is a father to two wonderful children: Anna has completed her high school at Midland Christian School (MCS) and has gone on to pursue her dreams at Texas Tech University. Cali plans to finish her Junior and Senior year as well at MCS and go on to college afterward. Dr. Copeland is committed to providing quality surgical care to the patients of West Texas, and in particular the Permian Basin through his practice at Midland Surgical Associates. He is an active staff member of Midland Memorial Hospital, serving on several committees to improve the quality of care at the hospital setting as well. He is delighted to serve his patients and provide the best care possible.

Donald E. Crockett

Dr. Parker Bassett

Dr. Parker Bassett was born and raised in West Texas. After graduating from Monahans High School, he went on to the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology. Dr. Bassett then completed his medical education at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. Following medical school, he completed his five-year general surgery training at St. Barabas Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center, in the Bronx, New York. During his time in New York, Dr. Bassett participated in multiple trauma and oncologic research projects and served as the Chief Resident. Dr Bassett is currently clinical faculty at UNTHSC and Texas Tech teaching medical students and residents. Dr. Bassett joined Midland Surgical Associates following completion of his residency. He enjoys serving the surgical needs of the people of West Texas.

Marshall Don Early

Dr. Marshall D. Russell Van Husen

Dr. Van Husen joined Midland Surgical Associates in 2007, where he specializes in open-vascular, endovascular, and bariatric surgery. Additionally, he has held various positions with Texas Tech as an Associate Professor, a Clerkship Director, and the Head of Development of Surgical Residency for the Permian Basin. He received several awards during his Residency and Fellowship, and he has published numerous research articles in professional medical publications. Dr. Van Husen is leading the development of a Center of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery at Midland Memorial Hospital, and he is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Texas Surgical Society and the Permian Basin Medical Society. He did his pre-med studies at the University of Texas and completed a Bachelor's of Science in Business at Texas Tech University. He attended the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, graduating in 2001, followed by a five-year general surgical residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He then spent some more time outside of Midland when he completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A native of Midland and a graduate of Midland High School, Dr. Van Husen is happy to be settled in his hometown with his wife and three children.

Sandeepa Musunuru

A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Musunuru began her medical practice in Midland after her medical training and residencies. She is board certified in general surgery, and she has a special interest in both benign and malignant breast diseases, as well as high-risk screening/surveillance for breast cancer. She is involved in the establishment of a multidisciplinary breast center in Midland with the goal of delivering the most up-to-date breast cancer care to the population of the Permian Basin. Dr. Musunuru received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, during which she was involved in multiple research projects and publications. After completion of her residency, Dr. Musunuru completed a breast surgery fellowship at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Shelton Viney

Dr. Viney is the founding partner of Midland Surgical Associates, one of the largest private surgical groups north of San Antonio and west of Dallas. He has cared for patients in West Texas for more than 35 years. He joined the medical staff at Midland Memorial Hospital in 1982, and has held numerous committee positions, including Chairman of the Surgery Department, Surgery Section Chief, and President of the Medical Staff. As Chief of Staff, he spearheaded MMH's transition from paper to Electronic Medical Records. Dr. Viney was appointed Regional Chair of the Department of Surgery for the Permian Basin for Texas Tech School of Medicine in 2007, a position he held until 2013. As Chair of surgical services he initiated the first fourth year medical student rotations at Midland Memorial, worked with the Texas Tech Medical School faculty in Lubbock to develop the first surgical rotations in Midland for third and fourth year surgical residents, and played a major role in establishing Texas Tech Permian Basin's medical school surgical training in Midland. In 2018, Dr Viney was reappointed as the Regional Chair of the Department of Surgery for the Permian Basin for Texas Tech School of Medicine. Dr. Viney delights in the opportunity to teach surgical residents and medical students, preparing them to meet the demands of medical care in the Permian Basin and beyond. Dr. Viney has maintained his certification by the American Board of Surgery and has been a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons since 1983. He specializes in General, Vascular, and Endovascular surgery with emphasis in minimally invasive procedures. He has been instrumental in developing the Surgical Robotic program at Midland Memorial, and is Physician Champion of NSQUIP, an outcome based program to measure and improve the quality of surgical care at MMH. His areas of interest include all aspects of Vascular and Oncological Surgery, especially esophageal and colon malignancies. Dr. Viney grew up in Midland and received his undergraduate and medical degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He completed his surgical internship and residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital and Clinic in Temple, TX where he trained in both General and Vascular Surgery. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Midland County Medical Society, Texas Surgical Society and Southern Society of Clinical Surgeons. He is a past-president of the Texas Surgical Society and served as the Society Secretary from 2007-2011. Dr. Viney is married to his wife, JoAnn, has three adult children and eight grandchildren.
