In 2008, I had a terrific marketing position in a successful architecture firm in Newport Beach, California. But, I was spending my lunch hours doing web research about humanitarian aid and social justice. My heart just wasn't in the corporate world. The next two years brought the economic recession, a death in my family, and (unexpectedly) a trip to Salvador, Brazil. All of these events led me to re-examine my priorities.
