Dr. Joanne Li became the 16th chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha on July 1, 2021, following unanimous approval from the University of Nebraska System Board of Regents on June 1, 2021.
The Board's action followed a national search that resulted in NU System President Ted Carter's selection of Li as the priority candidate for UNO chancellor. Her candidacy then underwent a 30-day public vetting period during which she engaged with 600-plus UNO students, faculty, staff, alumni, and stakeholders to answer their questions and share her vision for Nebraska's metropolitan university.
She is the first woman of color to serve as UNO chancellor and the first Asian-American in the history of the University of Nebraska System to hold an executive leadership role.

Dr. Melissa Berke serves as Associate Dean for the College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In this position she oversees academic affairs including faculty reappointment, promotion and tenure, curricular matters, and assists with college operations. In addition to her work in the college, Dr. Berke serves on numerous committees at the university level including the general education committee, the judicial board, and initiatives in diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
Prior to her role in administration, Dr. Berke served as the first female and first chair of color in the UNO music department where she also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in music education. Her specialization in early childhood/elementary music made her a sought-after clinician at many national and regional conferences. Dr. Berke facilitated the transition of the Nebraska Kodály Certification program from Nebraska Wesleyan University and served as its director of the from 2011-2015.
Dr. Berke currently serves on the Committee for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans, a participant in the AICAD BIPOC Academic Leadership Institute of the Association of Independent Colleges of Art & Design and is a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission.
She received both her Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from Drake University, and her PhD from The University of Arizona.

Sara Woods is the Chief Engagement Officer at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). She has worked at UNO for her entire professional career. In her current role, she oversees the UNO Office of Engagement, which connects the abundant knowledge, talent, and energy found on our campus to the communities we serve. The Office of Engagement includes the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center (CEC), the UNO Service Learning Academy, Volunteer and Civic Engagement Programs, the Community Engagement Partnership Initiative, and other programs to measure, recognize, and account for the impact of UNO's engagement efforts.

Walter "Ted" Carter, Jr. began his term as the eighth president of the University of Nebraska on January 1, 2020. Carter, the immediate past superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy whose tenure included records in graduation rates and student diversity and a top national ranking by Forbes Magazine succeeded outgoing interim President Susan Fritz.
