Alex is based in Melbourne and has 10 years of legal recruitment experience. He specialises in recruiting partners, General Counsel and senior lawyers for global law firms, corporations and patent & trade mark firms across the Asia Pacific region.
Alex leads the Australian division of Winchester Search. He has nearly ten years of experience working on behalf of global law firms, corporations and patent & trade mark firms, and has placed partners, General Counsel and senior lawyers into leadership roles across the Asia Pacific region.
His clients range from international law firms, US Fortune 50 corporations, ASX-top 10 companies and top-tier patent attorney firms, through to boutique Australian practices offering specialised services. Alex has recruited extensively into the patent & trade mark profession, and his objective is to be the preferred recruiter in this field in the Asia Pacific region.
Alex's focus is ‘research led' recruitment, combining Winchester Search's research capability with his market knowledge and network of contacts to ensure his clients secure the best available candidate. In addition to traditional research-driven executive search services, Alex can provide market mapping and competitor intelligence services - providing insights into his client's external business environment, enabling risks and opportunities to be identified early, and supporting strategic decision making.
Prior to establishing Winchester Search in Australia, Alex was a Principal of Carmichael Fisher - an international executive search firm with a global reach. Alex led Carmichael Fisher's legal recruitment team in Melbourne, where he managed search assignments for a variety of large companies, top-tier law firms and national patent and trade mark practices.
Alex graduated with honours in law from the University of Exeter in the UK before undertaking Masters' level studies in the USA and UK. He then practised as a barrister in London with a leading set of Chambers before relocating to Melbourne where he qualified and practised as a solicitor.

Ginger is an experienced lawyer who was previously a partner at a US law firm in Beijing. She has a wide network of contacts within the legal community and she specialises in recruiting for the in-house market in China and across the Asia-Pacific region.
Ginger Li is a Director and Head of Winchester Search's China In-House Practice Group. She focuses on in-house counsel placements, identifying talented lawyers and compliance professionals for public and private companies throughout China and across the Asia-Pacific region.
Ginger is a dual qualified lawyer and she has practiced in both China and Australia. She was previously the Managing Partner of Chadbourne & Parke's Beijing office, and she was a Special Counsel at HWL Ebsworth in Melbourne. She also held senior in-house roles with Peabody Energy and Siemens Ltd in China.
Ginger's experience working in both private practice and in-house has enabled her to gain a thorough understanding of the skills and experience that lawyers require to be successful in both the China market, and across the Asia Pacific region. Her prior experience means that she is well qualified to advise her candidates on the career paths open to them within the legal profession. In addition, she has a wide network of contacts within both the in-house and private practice legal community which enables her to locate strong candidates for her clients. Ginger previously was a Managing Director at Major Lindsey & Africa where she worked in the firm's in-house recruiting team.
Robert is based in Hong Kong and has 14 years of recruitment experience. He specialises in mid to senior level searches across compliance, legal, risk management, audit and finance.
Simon has 15 years' legal recruitment experience and specialises exclusively in recruiting lawyers for major offshore law firms in the Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the Channel Islands.
Stephen is based in London and has 15 years of legal recruitment experience. He specialises in private practice experience and he recruits both partners and associates to work for many of the leading international law firms in London and a number of national law firms across England.
Tim Smith - Managing Director
Tim is the Managing Director of Winchester Search. He has over 15 years of legal recruitment experience. He specialises in private practice recruitment at both associate and partner level for law firms in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Australia and Singapore. He splits his time between Winchester Search's Hong Kong and Melbourne offices.
William is based in Hong Kong and he has over 8 years of legal recruitment experience in Asia. He has a proven track record placing lawyers at partner, counsel and associate level into private practice, MNC's and investment banks in Asia.
